I'm not sure if this video has already been posted on this forum, but I thought it was too funny not to share.

If Cryptocurrency Was Honest | Honest Ads (Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Ethereum, Stellar, and Binance Parody)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUs5y9leCyA

"Everybody is familiar with money, but thanks to cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Ethereum, Stellar, and Binance we can now exchange those boring green presidential napkins for sexy computer cash that’s easier to lose, far more volatile, slaughters the environment, and can’t be exchanged for the vast majority of goods and services! Honest!"

There is also a lot of truth in it. Comment if you agree!  Grin

There's definitely a lot of truth in it, pretty sure that they did their research before doing that skit, I really like that Hanest Ads series, makes you aware of how you are being exploited in this capitalist world that sees you as a profit and not as a person. Regarding this video, I think the slaughtering in the environment isn't true anymore but I can see why they still say it, not every miner uses solar power as electricity source.

That's not if cryptocurrencies were honest. That's if crypto scammers were honest. Lumping those two together is foolish the least. Haven't we got rid of the criminal usage and environmental disaster arguments yet?

The video had a bit of humor, but beyond that the vast majority of it were baseless statements that would easily be debunked with the slightest research.

The truth there would be the part about presidential napkins and how the government wants to maintain strict control over how people use money, and also the volatility part.

we can now exchange those boring green presidential napkins for sexy computer cash that’s easier to lose,
I suspect that the creator of this advertisement is either misinformed or just someone who has a weak InfoSec who always loses his seed phrase or is getting scammed by those shitty projects.

and can’t be exchanged for the vast majority of goods and services! Honest!"
Eh? Of course! As far as I know, bitcoin's primary goal to is to create an alternative payment system that is borderless, immutable and censorship resistant. It never says that it should be the primary form of payment system. We're lucky that there are few services[1] who adapt/accept bitcoin as an alternative in exchange for their products/services/goods.

It may be true, though I don't think so. I think they did a good job of researching, but they wanted to make a parody of the crypto by bringing weak arguments to absurdity. Like I said, I found the video entertaining (even though I'm a hodler).

I must say that I like the 'if ... were honest' format in general, so I was excited to see it being applied to cryptos. The video itself is a little too harsh on cryptos, though. It's not slaughtering the environment, and it doesn't align a person with pedophiles. And decentralization is not a fancy word, it does matter. So it does have some merit, highlighting how a loss of password can affect you, and how cryptos largely can't be directly spend on goods, as well as the GPU price problem. The video is too long, often not fair (and the whole point of the 'honest' format is that it does need to be honest), and could be improved if it focused on one idea specifically: targeting Bitcoin, Ethereum, NFTs, ICOs or worthless low-cap altcoins.

Amusing and sadly at times it does bring up some real issues.
But, the question is, does this happen with all new tech. Anybody remember the Internet ads of the mid to late 90s or the car ads of the late 80s

Advertising is to tell people that they need to buy something and buy your brand of the stuff.
It's all going to contain a lot of BS.
We are seeing this is a different view then most since we are here in a crypto forum discussing crypto.
Go to a motorcycle forum and watch them discuss ads that that sell the crap that comes out for bikes and bikes themselves.

Despite the fact that this video is meant to be funny, there is a bit of serious truth to it. I think the video is primarily mocking the ignorant wannabe investors that have little understanding of how the crypto actually works and get burned as a result. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I'm any better than any of these people, just pointing out the fact that at the beginning, you need to understand the basics before attempting to play in it. Many newcomers seem to think that if you toss a couple hundred (or thousands) dollars at an ICO and think you're invested, you're doing it right. The reality is that is NOT the case. It's a market filled with a ton of speculators who are just trying to get rich off others. It's even worse than the stock market, where everyone is trying to get rich while only a few understand the rules of the game.

Unfortunately Bitcoin gets lumped in with other $hitcoins in this article, it should
be titled "Bitcoin is Honest | Honest Ads" for the reasons above.

Yea its a funny article but thats about it, the creators may know the true aspects
of Bitcoin but they are not funny.

Well, that's the truth. Many new technologies have been ridiculed at first. Even horseless carriages and television.  Cheesy

"We once laughed at the horseless carriage, the aeroplane, the telephone, the electric light, vitamins, radio, and even television! And now some of us laugh at outer space. God help us... in the future."
