First experience with mining hardware

I have a customer who bought his new mining pc on internet. After a couple weeks of work 2 out of 4 video cards stopped working, when he come to me with his PC i smelled a burning smell and checking the cables I noticed that some connectors were melted. I've tested the PSU and was faulty. VGA now seem to work propely with my PSU, but its not enoght strong to power all them up, so i tested them individually. I've notice that some riser+vga combination can bring to a BSOD, but swapping riser solve the issue. I am not experienced enough on this subject, so i need some advice. What PSU i must buy to replace the faulty one? Is a good idea to replace all the rizer to prevent BSOD?

CPU: Core i5 9600k

MB: TB360-BTC PRO

4 x GPU: RTX 3060

Don't change all risers because they can't go bad at once, separate the bad ones from the good ones to avoid unnecessary spending, as for your PC spec an 850-watt power supply will just fine, always use 80% of PSU available watts to prolong its life.

I don't know if your 3060 are LHR or non LHR (v1) but this card is capable of drawing up to 120watt per GPU depending on which algorithm you want to mine, so add up 120watt x4 which is 480 watts plus the mobo, Cpu, and Ram power consumption which should be roughly 140watt ( just a guess ) so add that with 480 watts which equals to 620 watts.

Power supply from 750watt upward will suit your needs.

HX1200 is strong enough to run all 4 GPUs, even in a peak condition of 170w each one
Call you tell which connectors are melted?

It's not rare to people use sata cable to power risers and them the cable melts, this could be a big problem and led to bigger issues.

In my opinion you need to verify the cause of this first
No need to replace all the risers, only the fault one

To run the setup I would pick a 850w gold PSU, Corsair, EVGA, Seasonic, XPG etc

I'll say again, check everything because melted cables can lead to something worse like a fire

It melted a 6-pin cable that provided two video cards with a splitter. Those who had previously mounted the PC had used the splitters to power the video cards in pairs. I think it was this that pushed the connector and the power supply to the limit. I got some research on the subject and was thinking of running the whole thing on a server power supply with a breakout board. Do you think this is a good idea?

Look around the forum, there are several threads discussing the pros & cons of using server PSUs for mining.
