Old motherboard not detecting new GPU

Hey everyone, I have a AM2 Socket Asus M2A MVP Motherboard. I have hiveos on it and GTX 1070 works and mines fine on it. However both my 1660 Ti and 2060 do not work on the board. When I plug in either of them the hiveos gpu list is just blank and there is an error saying gpu driver error no temps. Both gpu’s are working fine since I tested them on my gaming pc. Does anyone have any idea why the 1070 works but anything newer won’t work? I am confused. Thanks

I have one AMD motherboard that doesn't want to work with any Nvidia GPUS as well I ended up buying a new mobo for mining at the time because I don't have time for troubleshooting but later I updated the bios and it start working, maybe you should do the same?.

Hard to know exactly the cause, but there are some steps you can do to try to fix

First of all, update your bios like user above said, it's important to have latest bios, this will increase the compatibility of hardware, I already solve some issues with my rig just updating the bios
Be sure to have latest version of Hive OS
Enter into the bios and try to find some option about PCIe, I'm sorry but I don't have this motherboard and I don't know exactly the steps or options available, there are a long time since I used AM2
Check risers

I had this issue in the past with really old motherboards and new GPUs. No idea why however if it doesn’t work you will need to get another motherboard.

Back then lots of GPUs used the PCIe 1.0 standard and it should be backwards compatible on most GPUs however some GPUs just don’t work at all. It’s hit or miss. You need to basically put it in and try it.

Mine issue was that as soon as I powered up the rig, the fans ran at 100% and that was pretty much it. No amount of changing settings in bios did anything.

There is a motherboard in my basement with 6 pcie slots dedicated for crypto mining, whenever I tried to run an RTX GPU in this motherboard it won't boot up at all, will try to but shut down immediately and if I swap to a GTX card the motherboard will boot up, MOBOs are weird some times  .

Check with other software versions, such as Rave OS or Windows. If video cards are not detected, then use this motherboard only for 1070 and analogs. I'm very surprised that you have this mobo alive. My AM2 mobos broke a long time ago.

I have a AM2+ motherboard here that still works, not in use for mining because it doesn't support newer GPU, I noticed that a heat sink behind the CPU gets hotter if I plug in a new GPU like the RTX series but works fine with GTX series. Strange but true.

Few old motherboards won't support a new generation of GPU unless a BIOS upgrade is installed and that's even if the MOBO is still supported, many old motherboards get abandoned a few years later after launch.

Under normal conditions, each motherboard detects and starts 4 GPUs running smoothly. 4 If the Gpu limit is exceeded and the Gpu is suspended, you need to check the Gen3 and similar settings in the Bios settings.

Few motherboards don't have Gen 2 and Gen 3 option, even a mobo I bought for mining which have 6slots only works with 5 slots, I've tried everything I could even upgrade the BIOS.

It's normal, some old motherboards will need an update to become compatible with newer GPU, if you can't do this better buy another recent motherboard then.

I already tried installing the latest bios which was released in 2009, I also updated hiveos to newest version. I’m 99% percent sure I need a new board

I tried risers and also tried directly plugging in the card to the board’s pcie slots but nothing changed still refuses to work. I don’t get why a 1070 works but 1660 Ti doesn’t techically they are both new gpu’s and have no difference.

I already tried Smos and hiveos but both won’t work. Didn’t try windows because the cpu is slow and old.

You might have better luck with an AMD card like a RX 6600 (XT) if you have a friend with an AMD card you can try that.

You can still use the motherboard to build a rig with older GPUs like Rx vega 56 and 64, also those rx580 will work perfectly on this motherboard, next time try getting a motherboard that's dedicated for crypto mining they always work out of the box like plug and play.

No need to buy these graphics cards now. They are good at mining ethereum, but recently ethereum developers tweeted that mining would end soon. These video cards will be very cheap, because they do not have a very good hash rate on other algorithms.
