Apparently there was a bitcoin stake at some point when the 2017 fork contest was going on (I think the contest was to see who could make the most annoying amount of noise Grin).

The issue with these forks is they don't get much interest or volume for long. Why make another Dash when it's already a thing.

There's probably been other and there will probably be far more then we'll ever need made after the next hard fork too.

What you are describing is not a 'clone'. There is no such thing as a 'clone of Bitcoin'. All the other coins are altcoins that either initially forked from BTC or more often than not were created by someone looking to cash in on the crypto craze by creating yet another crapcoin, pre-mining the shit out of it and then hoping it get listed on exchanges so they can cash out.

Well you have Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC) which is basically a Bitcoin clone on the Ethereum blockchain which is now PoS. Of course, big quotation marks between "Bitcoin clone". No such thing.
