Greetings to the entire family of Bitcoin talk community, It's a great privilege and honour to be here.

During my time of research, I found out that a lot of project, both past and present are scamming people one way or the other, they rip those investors off their hard earned money. This got me thinking what are the categories, features and observation to put into consideration before investing in a crypto project. I really want to learn and enlighten my self about this.

There is no 'consideration', 'observation' or 'categories' to exactly indicate to you the outcome of a project. If you have researched like you say and found out that many projects have scammed investors, why are you still considering investing in them with your hard earned money, those scammed investors you read about where initially like you, they read about others being scammed, but they still went on with it, you probably may be amongst the next group of scammed investors that people will research about in the future.

If you are investing in new altcoin projects, take it like you are gambling with your money, 'expectation kills', so consider every dime invested as being lost and don't expect anything, unless the opposite then happens, OR just purchase bitcoin that's securely decentralized and start using dca to increase your portfolio for the long term, if you have your funds in your noncustodial wallet and safely in cold or offline storage without making mistakes nobody can rip you off your BTC.

Thanks a lot for this response, But in all honestly, I do strongly believe that some new Altcoin are still potential, and not all might end up being scam. Just my take

There may be some like that, but how do you find them, it is like a task of searching for a needle in a haystack or trying to recover bitcoin you lost all backups to, in both cases your search will end up with no good results. The call is yours in the end, all the bitcointalk community can do is give you our individual opinion. Do not forget that initial hype, which is what most new projects have, isn't potential in itself, a coin with potential will last for a long time and most new altcoins do not.

Some altcoins may not be scam in terms of rug pulling and running away with people's money, but when one creates a useless coin like do kwon did with luna and the entire system collapses, causing investors to lose billions of dollars, that is surely a scam too.

Being a newbie then it's safe and advisable to start with bitcoin and do yourself good as well as giving to learning to improve yourself and grow, learn to do things all by yourself, avoid altcoins for a start except you really think you're good enough in going for higher risk, i do tell newbies that no amount of research you can conducted that will make you safe from falling into the hands of bounty scams, they are experienced people that already knows more than any newbie could reason, stick to bitcoin and continue with learning, avoid centralized exchanges and if possible get your own wallet with your keys and learn how to use it all by yourself, knowledge is actually your first acquired asset that can guarantee you safety with your investments.

The best is don't invest in new projects. If you love it, wait a half of a year before you think of joining. I am sure when hype is away, you will have better entries.

If you love one project, you can wait to invest in it. A few months or one year is not a big issue. If you invest in new projects and in early days, it is likely you will invest together with fomo that is not good. Higher entries and you also have to wait for correcrion, accumulation.

Then don't ask someone to dissuade you from what you consider to be a good business opportunity, because the responsibility of any investment should be solely yours. Most people who are not inclined to altcoins will advise you to invest only in Bitcoin, but if you go to altcoins boards, you will certainly hear the opposite opinion.

In order to investigate the risk that comes with such projects, you need to have a lot of experience, because although there are those who literally scream "scam" everywhere, there are also those who are very mean and invest a lot of money and time to create the impression of legality.

I'd suggest you to stick with Bitcoin only since it's remain the safest coin to invest, as long as you can maintain your security and privacy, I'm sure your coins still on your wallet even though you leave it for next 10 or 20 years.

But you shouldn't blindly invest on Bitcoin, you should understand what is Bitcoin first, so you can know what's the reason why you're invest on Bitcoin regardless how much the price is.

Sometime we are just being hype over investment and got interested in the possible money that flows in there. We should always seek and do deep research about it. Everyone has their own failure and mistakes when it comes to investment choice but thats normal. Not all are expert after every trials. As long as you do correct measures to find out which one is good to invest then trust your guts and invest confidently.

features and observation to put into consideration before investing in a crypto project.
You should never "invest" in altcoins because in order to invest in something it has to have long term potential which can only happen if they offer real utilities. Since altcoins don't have any real utilities, they don't have any long term potential.
This is why the "trading" market is very active and prices are too volatile in a scheme called pump and dump. Basically people make bets on altcoins in short term during their pumps and make a quick profit by dumping them before others.
Meanwhile those who baghold altcoins miss all that action while watching their "investment" melt away.

This is true about all the altcoins too. For example ETH used to be worth twice as much as its current price in 2017 and any bitcoins you'd invested in it is now cut in half since it got dumped and could never recover. But in short term it has good pumps and you could have ridden to increase the amount of bitcoins you own which actually has a lot of utilities hence long term potential.

You call yourself a beginner, and if this is true, then your overconfidence may lead you to disappointment. Look at Ratimov's recent topic. Does this statistic scare you? You can also check out the theme from The Cryptovator .
If you still doubt that it is not worth wasting time on alternative coins, then you can be called a person who chose the path of learning from his mistakes.
But honestly, following the advice of others will make your path easier.

You're right, there's nothing to check or go on look after in dealing with altcoins since the aftermath will always impose danger than expected, no amount of filter or research conducted on them can change their real status from collapse, if a beginner must start then they must choose the right coin which is bitcoin and have a good start without fear of uncertainty demands, those that actually go after alts are probably the types that got freak with bounty and ponzi-like deals that have more risk than it pays, every successful journey for newbies starts with bitcoin as priority.

During my time of research, I found out that a lot of project, both past and present are scamming people one way or the other, they rip those investors off their hard earned money. This got me thinking what are the categories, features and observation to put into consideration before investing in a crypto project. I really want to learn and enlighten my self about this.

Actually most project never had the intention of developing themselves into becoming a proper company in the spacesl even with all the money they have raised and it's always a shame seeing this. I have worked with some numbers of project and majority are just after the hype, the moment the hype dies down the project dies as well. Altcoins are just selling beliefs and never a product. They claim they can solved a particular problem then investor get excited and hand  over their money then the project vanish as they never had any intention of solving that problem in the first place while others go around claiming to solve a problem which doesn't even exist or already have a working project solving that same problem.

Altcoins lack utility and they're just useful for trading purpose (which you should be very educated before you engage in such) and immediately that's lost they die. There's no blueprint for investing in an altcoin and get it right. Those doing so and profiting most times are just lucky or following the trend which if you're not smart enough would end up getting you rekted.

Invest few hundred bucks, if project goes success you made great gains or if it busts you will learn lessons that replies here can't tell you. When you lose money/or something , you tend to learn better.

Thanks a lot for this response, But in all honestly, I do strongly believe that some new Altcoin are still potential, and not all might end up being scam. Just my take
If that's what you belief then you'll have to do your research and stuff before you commit to any new altcoin out there. The belief these days with those new altcoins are they're likely going to be dumped as soon as possible and the hype will gone too soon.

Yeah, some my not end up being a scam.

But if you're too slow, you'll be left behind by those traders that knows how to play the game of the quick pump and dump from those altcoins.

Well we all may have our own cognitive perception about a project before joining in on it, and our thoughts about a good project may widely differ individually, my first key word is only trust Bitcoin in terms of Crypto-currency, but I have to join in on any project my watch out criteria is longevity, (I would rather be comfortable researching on a project that has stay long in the crypto-currency space) this leads to my second criteria and that's what its community like, ( a community satisfaction or irritation can tell a few things about the project in general). This two factor would be my priority then I would check out other factors.

This got me thinking what are the categories, features and observation to put into consideration before investing in a crypto project. I really want to learn and enlighten my self about this.

As a newbie you have to minimize your risk very well because if you start to lose, it will discourage you to further investing or diversify. I prefer to advise newbies to invest in bitcoin or etheruem they are the trusted coins. Bitcoin is decentralized and not controllable or not manipulated which makes it secured then etheruem although it is centralized but it has a working team that is very active to create more innovation.

But in all honestly, I do strongly believe that some new Altcoin are still potential, and not all might end up being scam. Just my take
I agree with you, not all new altcoins are scams. Some of the new altcoins may have good potential to grow in the future, but to expect the projects grow quickly during this bearish market looks very difficult. Especially for the new altcoins with weak fundamentals, they will be hard to struggle with the current market situation. If you want to invest safely, I suggest you to invest in established coins or top coins that already have big market caps.
