Good point. I went through and removed several inactive moderators from various boards. Thanks!
Good you considered my thoughts! thanks too!

I will be open to becoming one when you consider adding more  Cool

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread too! it's due for lock, will do that now!

Edited: edited to solved as admin already removed all the inactive moderators.

But I do not like when someone just come to ask this question when he has no good reason to ask the question.
It was imho a legit question, which was proved by theymos decision to actually remove several inactive mods.

This is discussion forum, people will always ask all kind of stuff, even when its being discussed God knows how many times before so only thing that is surprising here is when people wonder why someone is asking something.

Had to come back to read through this thread again and I noticed the above comment from Charles. I got very pissed! anyways it's all resolved.

If anyone wants to become a moderator, he/she can tender their application then Theymos can access them by also looking at the reports they made to moderators because i learnt that if you make good reports to moderators, you can have a high chance of becoming one in the future so the administrator cannot just make appointments, what if he appoints someone and the person isn't willing to take the job despite that a payment is attached to it? As for approving a moderator via a voting process, it doesn't make any sense because just like you said, it will become bias, political and probably someone that is incompetent might be voted in.

True,
But as a corollary, it wouldn't even be necessary for anyone to apply as a moderator, as Theymos already has a pretty clear idea of the situation. Knowing how much each user cares about the board and has sufficient time, technical capabilities, and commitment to be a moderator.

Right! The level of dedication any of the members in the forum gives to a specific board in terms of reporting and giving feedback on things which are wrong or right will probably be the determinant of theymos recognizing them to be qualified for such tasks. However, since it’s a paid job interest rate will be high because there is a benefit attached to it. Yet not all who might be interested will even be good enough.

I may be wrong but the approval of moderators in the past was done automatically by Theymos after assessing the level of commitment of a user in a particular board but in recent times, i found out that before a moderator can be assigned to a particular board they are being assessed through their commitments in making valid reports, and probably get backings from users who frequent on that particular board before Theymos will grant them as staffs of the forum.

Moderator is a difficult task, as it needs a particular user being comeptent about the topic discussed in the board (espacially for local boards) and the forum rules, or at least forum etiquette, whatever that means. This restritct hte choices by theymos to an handful of users, provided that not all users are willing to take this role.

Of course this is true and aren't just assigned to someone who aren't that competent to handle it, though local board could be that easier but in general board its requires such person to be that knowledgeable towards that topic of discussion and to the entire boards.
I could remembered how our local board mod was assigned, it was based on the community choice and how active and dedicated he was on the local also attributes to him becoming one of them and I think the task is also much on him which we need more mods.

OP, I believe it's time you locked this thread. You got theymos' attention and response. Issue fixed. Kindly lock it to avoid spamming.

Good point. I went through and removed several inactive moderators from various boards. Thanks!
