This verified twitter account is hosting a giveaway posing as the LooksRare project. Coinmarketcap says that the domain name of this project is different (.org). When you go to this phishing site you see a countdown but when you refresh the page you have the timer set back to 13 minutes. In no case do not connect your ETH wallet to this site!I have already reported this to twitter support.

First you misplaced this thread on the reputation board better move it to the Scam Accusations board as another place for scams to let people know more. And now there are more Verification twitter accounts holding fake giveaways, whether it's a hack or what's clear, if it doesn't make sense, don't ever follow the instructions. Currently, this type of fraud is very common on Twitter when the name of a previously verified account is changed. Right here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5412110.msg60926907#msg60926907 a case is described when scammers changed the account name to Vitalik Buterin by posting a link to a fraudulent website with an offer to "Official ETH Giveaway".

When you go to this phishing site you see a countdown but when you refresh the page you have the timer set back to 13 minutes.
I would not worry about it. They were just lazy to check the reload event LOL Considering the .com version is not owned by the real LooksRare team, this verified twitter account obviously hacked. Few days ago I saw another accusation against another verified Twitter account. And it looks like this is a very common thin on twitter now.

I would not worry about it. They were just lazy to check the reload event LOL I would say that it was programmed that way so that nobody ever runs out of time, and it's an easy way to scam as many people as you can because nobody would bother to reload the page you did. It's shameful how there are just too many bots on Twitter right now, and a lot of accounts are going through the verification process even without having a large audience. Just a few days ago, I noticed a twitter account with only 85 followers carrying the verification badge and the same twitter was participating in twitter daily follow trends. Considering the .com version is not owned by the real LooksRare team, this verified twitter account obviously hacked. Few days ago I saw another accusation against another verified Twitter account. And it looks like this is a very common thin on twitter now.
Because you have more expertise and exposure, I can tell you that there are thousands of crypto rookies who have no idea what the real website looks like and just put their money in, believing that all verified pages are legitimate. However, in the real world, a verified page should only belong to a trusted individual/company; however, nowadays, you do not have to submit KYC to be verified; instead, you are usually verified automatically if you have a large audience or at least 10 million tweet impressions for at least 6 months straight or more. I've seen people offer verified pages for as little as $1000 with less or more followers, and it makes you wonder 'what the fck?'

It is still a big question mark whether platforms as big as Twitter and Youtube are that easy for user accounts to be hacked on accounts that have been verified? We never know behind all that whether there is a charade or it really happened in the hack so this is indeed a lot of misleading followers with fake giveaways posted and it is very clear that some of their followers may have clicked or deposited money because of their ignorance caught in the trick. So it's clear on Twitter that a lot of people are misleading about fake giveaways, including now the Merge trick is still commonly used by scammers.

The problem is with a lot of social media influencers and other famous people. Or even less well known but still 'known' it's not just that person who has access to the account. Assistants or even people who were just hired to run parts of their social media lives have access. So although a lot may come from them, other things may be tweeted / posted by someone working for them. If they get fired / quit after a fight passwords will probably be changed / access removed. If they left under friendly conditions that might not happen and they would continue to have access. They then find out scammers will pay well for that information..... -Dave

If this is true then the whole Twitter verified bade is just a joke. I too used to think verified badge means they verity real identity but giving badge based on the engagement/popularity is just crazy. This does not contain any weight for the brand. For real influencers it's basically common. Obviously they do not have time to manage social media accounts and post whatever update they have available. But you are right a lot of time having access by others cause the trouble. The actual owner even not aware of it unless it become viral.

No identity or documents are required to be submitted; you simply need to go through the verification process, which, as previously stated, is usually automatic. However, early last year, the Twitter verification was bypassed, and the verification process was put on hold for several months to increase security. I'm not sure how it's been handled recently, but there is a trend in my area. Our local comedians are selling their verified pages for a good price, then returning online to inform their fans that they have been banned and must create a new account, get verified, and repeat. Scammers are out there buying verified pages at low prices.

In the side of the comedians, they are seeing it as an easy way to cash out big, not knowing the implications of it. Because they have a community of people who would always follow them to built their new account, they are seriously feeding on them. Do they consider that it is even a potential threat to their followers who might not know the change of hands. Well, if twitter can stick a particular name (not only the username) to a particular account, such that even if the account changes hand, it will not change name, I think this type of scam could be curtailed. That is why I love the non flexibility of bitcointalk username and accounts.

In this case Twitter needs to consider ID verification instead of this stupid activity/impression/popularity metric. People will abuse as long as they will not going back to the original method of verification that actually was intended to have a verified badge.

Now the profile link is still the same https://twitter.com/samcashcash but the name on Twitter has been changed to sam Frisch. That means a scammer hacked the profile and they changed the name to LooksRare| DAO Airdrop Live from sam Frisch. But I am surprised that there is no announcement regarding this hack or scam or scam attempt.

In this case Twitter needs to consider ID verification instead of this stupid activity/impression/popularity metric. People will abuse as long as they will not going back to the original method of verification that actually was intended to have a verified badge.
Not everyone wants to submit KYC to Twitter for verification because their database is easily compromised. If Twitter imposes KYC for verification, I'm sure the majority of the crypto Twitter community will fail it. After all, this is social media, right? You will also be verified if you have a large and active community. My younger brother is a verified TikToker; he earned the badge as a result of his large community and engagements. It's social media, and the only way to avoid being scammed is to not believe everything you see and to pay close attention to verified pages. Only hate speeches are moderated by Twitter. It's possible that the real owner decided to use his influence to defraud his followers; the old posts are still there, he just changed the profile picture to avoid being banned, and he's only taking a break.

The KYC is more appropriate because it's a social media. Database compromised and other things are their failure points. Obviously crypto owners will not take KYC positively and in that case when someone have a verified website, verified influential other social platform like YouTube, Facebook; they should take it as a reference for their verification process. I don't know if Twitter has groups or pages like fan club or a celebrity, if they have then may be they can ask legal paper from the lawyer of the celebrity to check if they gave the permission. It's all up to them how they will improve their platform. The current process of verification badge is surely failing the image of having it considering the numbers of scams are happening from verified blue badges accounts.

That Giveaway shit is regular on Twitter and Telegram as well. I had a dummy Twitter account, and I used to follow some crypto accounts. Not sure how and why, but I started getting notifications like you won 1000 USD, You won 100K Shib etc. etc. I had no choice, but I had to block those accounts so that I don't get notifications anymore.
