This is very common among Nigerians. They hardly share ideas or opportunities that make them rich with people. Even in business, they will never want to show you the way out. They will rather constantly give you money than showing you the way to the opportunity. This is another year, like OP has said let's try to bring someone up by showing them the way not by constantly giving them money.
Wetin you dey try to talk here bro? This thing is not peculiar to only us in Nigeria. E dey everywhere and in fact na wetin oyibo use to overtake us be that and dem still dey do am up to now. Na oyibo dey do am pass sef because dem no wan teach us how to make good use of our resources. Our refineries wey no dey work, you think say na normal things? Dem no want us to be independent completely.
I'm not against helping someone but person go dey careful on who to help because helping someone this days come with a lot of consequences if care is not taken. Especially for this our country wey everyone is so desperate to make it even at the detriment of others including person wey show them way. We don hear and see cases of such where person dey set up him helper just to take over his position. Na why many people no like to dey share update again because people fit put sand for your garri. As we know, privacy is power and they can not destroy what they don't know.
And again make we also know that nobody owe us anything. Na this entitled mentality dey stop some people from hustling on their own and create unnecessary enmity with people who no feel like helping them. If people help you out, accept it and if they no help you, life goes on.
Have you on your own assisted someone in the capacity that you can? The people who cry the most that nobody is offering a helping hand to them are people who have never tried helping others. It is a natural law to get what you give, If you offer help, you will get help when you need it, if you do not offer help when you can, and also do not have a heart of helping others, help will be far from you when you need it.

Offering help is a thing of choice and you don't need to offer one before you get in return. Although, helping someone when you get means is a good thing but it's not a guarantee that you will also get help when you need it.
