Error 1015: You're Being Rate Limited?

Hi members, I was logged in to my bitcointalk account yesterday and during the course of my surfing, I was unable to access the bitcointalk website, anymore and instead, I recieve an error page showing Error 1015 with other information such as You are being rate limited. There's also a message that follows: The owner of this website (bitcointalk.org) has banned you temporarily from accessing this website.

This is the first time I'm experiencing such error message from the forum, what could have been the issue and have anyone else witnessed the same problem?

It means that you're visiting the forum or forum's page with lots of requests in a short period of time, either you refresh the page too many times or clicking one of the forum links so many times, or have open too many tabs with forum links in short of time. It's just like a protection from CF for bots that behaves like that (accessing site pages faster like 10x for N seconds)

My job sometimes requires me to use South and North American IP addresses to access certain websites. I saw the "you are being rate limited" twice today but not on Bitcointalk. One was on a website to check your IP address, and the other one was from a Canadian work-related page. I don't remember seeing it before on either website. Deactivating and re-enabling my VPN fixed it.

Rate-limiting is a feature from Cloudflare that protects online servers or services from attacks such as DDoS or other illicit activities that hackers or spammers usually use to attack websites and servers. The feature temporarily blocks you from accessing a website when you exceed a request limit within a specific timeframe which means if the limit is set to 3 requests within 10 seconds, you will get this error if you have had 4 requests within 10 seconds. This is just an example.

The owner of the domain/website can change the settings of the feature by either increasing the requests or reducing the timeframe for the already specified request amount, and then users will most likely not face this error again unless they are still exceeding the specified limits.

You are using a browser that is connecting all your tabs that was not closed before you close the browser. The tabs are opening online again underneath immediately after you open the browser. Is that how your browser is? That could have been the reason for the error. Use a browser that will open a tab at a time as you are clicking to the tab, not the one that will be opening the old tabs at once underneath.

Op, I suggest you to change your browser or its settings and the issue will be solved without any worries. If that doesn't solves the issue then you might try a VPN and visit the site again, and that would most probably solve the issue of that rate limiting. If none of those work then I suggest you to try Tor browser and that may most probably solve the issue.

I can't imagine what your facial expression would be like when you read that message...lol.

I read all that people wrote as the possible cause and the suggestion therein but I still believe that none may be the cause, how can a browser's taps be interacting the way they suggested? Underground works may be going on with the forum which is causing such a technical error. I've not experienced it before but in the morning I also witnessed a weird/rare prompt when I wanted to delete a post.

I can't remember the actual words again but it was not related to the command I issued.

This message s coming from Cloudflare, maybe because you have been using VPN or Tor browser for accessing the forum.
Shared IP addresses can sometimes get temporary banned but I doubt this will last a long time.
You can also try using different device and browser and see if everything works.

Maybe OP is using VPN and the reason why this happened may be the ip address that the VPN used and we know that there's something called ip address that is used in malicious activity so when OP open the forum then he may be commanding more than one command like posting and when op use the forum the ip address is detected as malicious. Although it sounds bad but it will not happen for too long. Op should try using different browser and try restarting the internet by restarting the modem.

I can't remember vividly between yesterday and today I passed through same issues but what I did was to close some of my tabs and also check my network strength and signals, most times network also cause this issues while trying to surf the forum. Also try to clear history I mean, browsing history on your phone or pc and let it be as fresh browser then you wouldn't experience this anymore. This is what I didn't after that never experienced till this very moment.

How are you accessing and browsing the forum? Do you use a VIP, proxy, or TOR? If you do, that could be the culprit for those error messages. Cloudflare sometimes spits out different notification. You might notice other when trying to enter the captcha, where Cloudflare doesn't allow you to. In case that happens, deactivate and activate your VPN or select a different server. That usually does the trick.
