Yes I agree with you, the government of any country can try to ban or heavily regulate the use of Bitcoin within its borders. However, major countries are trying to completely eliminate the use of Bitcoin but making it extremely difficult for governments. In countries where bitcoin is currently used, it continues to be used through mechanisms such as peer-to-peer exchanges despite government restrictions. Anyone can access and use Bitcoin from anywhere in the world. This makes it challenging for any single government to stop using Bitcoin.

There are no "major countries" trying to ban Bitcoin or otherwise, "completely eliminate the use of Bitcoin". That's nonsense.

Bitcoin is legal to hold and trade in almost every country in the world.

Spreading this disinformation drives the price of Bitcoin downward. Please stop.

The government has the full power to stop Bitcoin and it may not exist again if the world government comes together to ban Bitcoin and eradicate all that it is all about, they would do it but this will be very difficult because not all country will agree with that and it could bring a state to contention. We don't pray that this will happen because even the United States have accepted Bitcoin and it shows that things are going to go smoothly and the adoption is going to continue as more people get to know about Bitcoin. It is better we starts buying before the full adoption will take place that will increase the numbers of holders to skyrocket.

That not true as you say it, you see bitcoin is run by an open source meaning developers from different parts of the world take care if bitcoin and as long as nodes are still functioning in the network then everything woudl continue to work fine except the government finds a way to stop that and nodes are run by individuals, but sure restrictions can affect the price of bitcoin drastically since it becomes hard for new investors to come in and efts would have no choice than to remove bitcoin too, so the government can actually attck bitcoin but not end it.

A simple act of Congress in the USA could send the price of Bitcoin down 99%.

As to whether it would remain technically "alive" among a few thousand hackers on the Internet is really not very relevant to virtually all current holders of Bitcoin.

As as we've discussed on another thread, a large nation-state player like China or even the USA could easily perform a "51% attack" and effectively take over the Bitcoin network, and do anything they wanted with it.

The answer to this thread, therefore is:

Yes, the government could stop Bitcoin if they wanted to; no, there is no major government in the world that wants to right now.

Each government have their own point of view and government will be so powerful while it comes to controlling their own country. They can do a lots of thing. Even many country already restricted Bitcoin but they won't stop Bitcoin cause some other governments allowed their people to use Bitcoin as well as Bitcoin mining. And they earn from these. So Bitcoin can't be stopped. Even if all country ban Bitcoin, some people will still mine Bitcoin and keep using Bitcoin illegally.
It is within the power of any country's government to outlaw Bitcoin but it is beyond their power to shut down Bitcoin. Because Bitcoin is not controlled by any specific group or specific people. Since Bitcoin is a very old crypto-currency and its value is very high no government apparently has the power to shut down Bitcoin. But I believe that all the countries that have allowed Bitcoin mining will start using Bitcoin soon.

Yes, government can stop BTC in a particular country because they have the power to stop anything they don't approve for their people, which they can also do the same thing to stop their people not to use BTC or have any relationship with any decentralized currency in their country, and they will deploy army forces to be monitoring people in the country.
Off course every country government can stop the BTC because there the one own the power they have the right to stop everything they like with in country, but for me stop the people's from using the decentralized currency doesn't have any reasons since is not that the BTC affects the government properties, but they will not do the necessary things or what can fevor the people in countries.
Quote

Since, we know that BTC is not control by any government, because is a decentralized currency which no government have the power to stop BTC in the whole world or control the movement of BTC in the world
But do you know that there some stage that if he reach government can able to stop BTC even thought is a decentralized currency. Because if every government put a law on his country that everyone should stop BTC it can be possible accept they didn't wish to so, because people in the country can do anything against them since they have the power.

Their is something I confide on me toward the existence of cryptocurrency and government, so do you think that government can make Bitcoin not be functioning, or do you think that politics of a particular country can obstruct the existence of Bitcoin, because their one particular things I know that can not make Bitcoin to stop because it's a safe independent coin, when looking at Bitcoin government can only make a control of Bitcoin in their country to restrict Bitcoin but can not stop the existence of Bitcoin. I don't know for any body in your country can government stop Bitcoin?

Bitcoin have come too far to be stopped or controlled by a single entity (the government). If there was a way for them to do that, they would have done it and we will already be ascertained that bitcoin can be stopped by the government. Haven’t you seen how all the allegations and hatred for the currency have paved more way for it to stand on its existing protocols and continue to enlarge its reach. Too many clear signs to see that it cannot be stopped but only regulated, if they’d done that, they must have started benefiting from it too by number of citizens using them. Maybe they want to try their luck out again to see if they can stop it or have total control over it, but in all sincerity or likelihood, it won’t be possible to do.

Yes the government has right to stop Bitcoin because they have the power to do so but the the reasons they are can't do it is that Bitcoin is a decentralized digital asset, and also Bitcoin has come a long way the be controlled by some group of individuals they may only resist the use of Bitcoin in a particular country but can't stop Bitcoin.

While they can regulate exchanges and enforce restrictions,
No country's government can regulate bitcoin exchanges. Yes, of course a country's government can place restrictions on the public exchange and storage of bitcoins. But we can certainly exchange bitcoins through non-custodial wallets very easily. In this case there is no need for government intervention and the government cannot control it.

Technically governments can’t directly stop Bitcoin as it operates on a decentralised network. Bitcoin transactions are verified & recorded by a network of computers called miners making it difficult for any single entity to control or shut down the system. What they can do is governments can regulate or restrict Bitcoin through indirect means such as imposing regulations on exchanges, enforcing AML laws or banning cryptocurrency usage. These measures can affect the ease of buying & selling Bitcoin but they can’t completely eliminate its existence or prevent people from using it.
Of course yes the government of a country can frustrate Bitcoin adoptors in its own country and forces the existence of Bitcoin to the exile by disputing the fact that Bitcoin as a global and unified digital currency would be an illegal tender and whoever found transacting or associated with the Bitcoin or the rest Crypto currencies and whoever is caught on it would face the regulatory laws of violation.

They might not actually succeed to terminate the existence of the Bitcoin totally in the country because it is a decentralized technology so, it would be unguaranteed to cover a total range in the community where no citizen can not be associated with the currency.

The ultimate regulatory power of the government over Bitcoin is mostly based on the official legal tendered for means of payments and also using the centralized exchange to trade their assets with the fiats and aside that, smart citizens can always hold safely and secretly with their Bitcoin for an asset.

You are right. Governments can only make things difficult for bitcoiners but they cannot stop Bitcoin. If they could, they would have done that a long time ago. There have been cases in my country where certain exchanges were banned outrightly in a bid to discourage bitcoin and cryptocurrency adoption. That still hasn't stopped people from using bitcoin, people still maneuvered the system to do what pleases them and till now, there's still a way out. Satoshi Nakamoto did us a favour by making Bitcoin decentralized because if he hadn't done that, we would have been using bitcoin at the mercy of the government where we either dance to their tunes or get evicted from the system.

Technically they can't stop the Bitcoin from used as Bitcoin but they can definitely shut any centralized service that provides crypto services which can be an exchange, casino, or even wallet provider became the target of Fed in the recent days if you have been watching the news, for example Phoenix wallet has been forced to shut down their service from US.
Government can only frustrate the effort of the BTC users in the country, but they can't stop BTC not to exist in the world because is a decentralized currency that is not control by any government, and it pump when it is time to pump high and It dump when it is time to dump.

Despite the banned of BTC and crypto in my country, there are still BTC users in my country which the government is not aware and they are still promoting BTC and crypto to educate those people that see BTC as a distraction to our currency which is not truth.

I know US government has been fighting BTC and crypto users in their country, but there are some users who are also politicians in the country and they are coming up to include BTC and crypto in their campaign to make sure BTC and crypto users support them in this up coming election.

Government can't stop BTC but they can shut down mining operations, they can shut down every exchanges, they can even announce anyone involved with crypto can be facing criminal charges that doesn't stop BTC but can cause drop in prices let's say it's now at 71K but if governments all over the world decide to ban BTC overnight then it can bring down price to at least below 10K again which won't stop BTC operations but what about the investors who re holding.

Any way they won't go to such moves cause the found BTC tax revenue model is far better than banning it so they will be imposing high taxes and discourage people from using it.

People's support for Bitcoin is indeed its life force and its blockchain technology. Besides another important reason to be optimistic about Bitcoin is the past experience or success statistics of Bitcoin. Since there are no barriers to a person's access to Bitcoin shutting down Bitcoin is a futile effort.

Yeah bitcoin cannot be shut down by the government bitcoin is used online. Everything is secret that's why the government has no power to regulate bitcoin even if it wants to it's completely out of the government's hands. Bitcoin exchanges have separate wallets and all information in these wallets is private.

Do you think that government can stop Bitcoin?

They blew up Nord Stream, didn't they? It would be easy to take out the power grid.

Cool

They? Do you mean the Ukrainians?
Can the Ukrainian government stop bitcoin? They have more pressing matters to attend to Wink
Technically any nuclear power could stop bitcoin by nuking half of the world. That would disrupt power and Internet at the same time, start a panic and kill a large part of the population. Nobody would care about bitcoin for a while

In my opinion a government can never completely shut down Bitcoin, if that were the case then all governments would interfere with Bitcoin. So don't you think that the government is continuing to try, I think the government is still trying to stop or take control. The decentralized system has given Bitcoin freedom. In all the countries where the use of Bitcoin is prohibited, the use of Bitcoin is still going on in all the countries, the government cannot interfere in any way. But it can control how Bitcoin is used and exchanged in some way. Currently, Bitcoin seems to be impossible to stop despite the advanced technology in the major countries of the world.

I agree with you actually because even in countries that placed restrictions on cryptocurrency yet most of their citizens are very much into cryptocurrency and my country was a typical example though they have lifted the ban but as at when the ban was still active so many people were still investing on cryptocurrency and the government was very much aware but couldn't do anything and they can never do anything because Bitcoin has gotten to a point when the government can only succeed to regulate it but they can't completely interfere in people's transactions.
