Research has shown that 80% of Africans don't even read through the terms and condition before entering into a deal, or signing a contract.
Not finding time to read through the terms and condition before signing any agreement is very very wrong and you must refrain from such attitude as this could limit your legal remedies if things go wrong.
Africans might simply be unaware of the potential consequences of not reading them. They may not realise the rights they could be giving up and that's one of the things affecting us till date.
My father bought a pieces of land and in their agreement written it was said that after 3 years of not putting a permanent structure on the land he will lose ownership of the land, but he pay no attention to the terms and condition and he was using the land for agriculture. So after the 3 years the community came back to collect the land from him and he challenged the community to court just to find out that it was written in the terms and conditions.
If you have a terms and conditions agreement, you'll know the answer instead of having to go to arbitration, so please in whatever thing you are putting okay or your signature do read the terms be it on paper or your phone, it will saved you from alot!

You are very much correct bro, but am not quite certain when you are talking of the percentage involved, because I have experience a crazy and stupid terms  and conditions from most of this p2p merchant when doing p2p transaction, you will see a merchant that will say that two hundred naira will be deducted from the original money he wanted to pay as bank charges, if he is buying from you, so due to the fact that most people don't actually read terms and conditions on most of this adds the merchant put up, they will later start having problem with the merchant, and to tell you the truth, the merchant will always win the case when the issue is being settled by customer support, because his terms and conditions were  written down clearly already before the trade was opened, so they believed that you agreed to it, so in essence of all this, it's very very important to read terms and conditions of most of this merchant when doing p2p transaction, because most of them are just crazy, someone will boldly say that he wouldn't release or pay if your phone number is not submitted to him, so he can call, as if it's a compulsory thing, so we should be very careful with terms and conditions generally.

You are very much correct bro, but am not quite certain when you are talking of the percentage involved....
What Op Is talking about here is that we should always read the terms and conditions of anything we do generally and this is true because many have suffered greatly from this ignorance even outside the crypto space. So we have to always take our time to know the terms and conditions of anything we buy or do because prevention is better than sorry

-snip- because I have experience a crazy and stupid terms  and conditions from most of this p2p merchant when doing p2p transaction, you will see a merchant that will say that two hundred naira will be deducted from the original money he wanted to pay as bank charges, if he is buying from you, so due to the fact that most people don't actually read terms and conditions on most of this adds the merchant put up, they will later start having problem with the merchant, and to tell you the truth, the merchant will always win the case when the issue is being settled by customer support, because his terms and conditions were  written down clearly already before the trade was opened, so they believed that you agreed to it, so in essence of all this, it's very very important to read terms and conditions of most of this merchant when doing p2p transaction, because most of them are just crazy, someone will boldly say that he wouldn't release or pay if your phone number is not submitted to him, so he can call, as if it's a compulsory thing, so we should be very careful with terms and conditions generally.

Actually bro your reply is great and I have also experienced it were merchant cut some amount as fee charges which is actually annoying to me, though once I see something of such I moved to another merchant or else you go with such term if you fail to see it earlier but please can you try give some space in your text since it's hard to read like this

Perhaps this percentage which you gave here is an old statistics, I think it's not longer correct as the educational system of Africa has increased and thus such notion has changed a bit, a whole of us now read terms and conditions before taking any actions.

Back then in the olds it's very much easy to scam and African using writing because we don't do writing much as the western world but now I think we do it more than they do now because the effect of colonialism has drastically affected our perspective of education and enlightenment.

It's also true that a lot don't read terms and conditions but let's not make it a po und like it's only Africans, in the world most people just like to skip that part of agreement. Basically I don't read it that much too but when it's necessary and has to do with money Africans/Nigerians are always very careful.
Additionally, it's very important for us to read terms and conditions because it will save us from a whole lot of stress, especially in terms of acquisition.

You raised a good topic here for discussion no doubt. But referring it to jus Africans is quite wrong. You are generalizing the African men to be fools that do not read. Let me tell you something, Africans are one of the continents that value education and loves reading. The problem of not reading terms and conditions is a general problem and not a continental problem. And today i will prove you wrong that it is difficult to scam an African man by mere terms and conditions.

Good reasons to prove you wrong

A lot of Africans are tech savvy and the number of online users has increase so well. Illiteracy rates are still improving in some areas in Africa that are not fully technological inclined. Especially in Nigeria today there are lots of tech people and these sets of persons are aware of protecting themselves online and they have understood the importance of reading terms and conditions before using any service of which they are going several awareness to enhance safety measure online which i know the importance of reading terms and conditions is not an exemption. I have literally attended such events in Port Harcourt.

Infact some persons do not care to read terms and conditions anymore because most times those services just write pure jargons dumped in their terms and conditions and expect so people to read it. However, this could happen anywhere, not just in Africa buddy!

Where's the lies in this, due to the poverty rate in Africa, people have become too desperate to escape poverty and sometimes when opportunities come their way, be it in a case of acquiring properties or whatever industry most people don't even care to read the terns and conditions before signing any contract or document so far they're comfortable with the offer, they skip the T&C and rush into signing without proper cross-check.

I've also heard of a case where a boy good at music signed a contract with a record label but didn't know what he was doing cause he had no one to guide him through, in the contract he signed he was to be paid 20% of whatever amount the record label makes from his music while they take the remaining 80, I bet before he signed he was very happy he'll soon be a popular celebrity and probably make millions little did he know that he'll be used and paid little for his services.

Well sometimes it might be due to ignorance and before you know it they've end up losing a lot of rights or selling their services for peanuts while they could've been making lots from the contract or business if only they've cross-checked the terms and conditions properly. Sometimes one might not be learned or very educated to understand what the conditions indicates that's why I'll advise that people who are not very learned should seek advice from a lawyer or learned person before signing a contract, business or land documents.

This post is in line with an old saying that if you want to hide something from a blackman or African , put it in a book.
It's just too funny how same story is true in this case. Not all Africans are like this anymore because many of us has been scammed or suffered hackers ploy due to clicking without reading properly. One thing that is certain is that terms and conditions may be too long to read that's why a forum like this helps so much to tell some of the things to expect mostly as concerns some wallets and exchanges that go off their way to give terms and conditions.
Part of the essence of being educated is also to be able to read and understand certain rules that are applicable in our today's society so as not be victims . Do your own research and things would go as smoothly as possible.

I appreciate you all for speaking in agreement to this post, and I like the fact that we all got the message.
My post was just pointing out to the nonchalant attitude when it comes to reading terms and conditions.

I'm sorry for the fact that I have to use Africa and the 80% statistics, I know this was true in time pass but not presently, I was looking at getting the attention of the local board to this important information because I have become a victim of so many platform without reading the terms and conditions and just clicking accept.

Please and pleases whenever we found ourselves in any platform before we click the accept or okay, let's try and read the terms and condition however bulky it might be, let's just read it to the end so that we have a strong standing thank you.

I can understand what you are talking about that Africans could be impatient to go through terms and conditions of what regulates the policies of what they are being engaged on which can be contracts, purchases, agreements or some source of documentations but OP, dont say it is at the range of such %80 else I will ask you to provide analytical proof which I know it does not exist suffer we can't be assured of the totality of African who has readability because that is also one thing to be concerned about because some persons of such does not have the ability to read.

It is downgrading to African nations with the way you structured some of the thread lines which yeah I am not disputing to it because Africans has always love taking those shortcuts to get things done and save some stress.

About your dad, that story is not clear to me because I have not seen were buying lands from the local communities would come with a term and condition aside the body of the documentary which is about the both parties agreement unless you want to tell me that the dealer is a real estate body particularly dealing on real estates with an licence authority.
So as an investment organization they can always have their own terms and conditions of how they operates.

Please don't infect such and related acts of illiteracy with the 80% Of Africans. Blame your dad for his mistake and let the rest of us take note as much it is an experience to be captioned.

We can also be proud at some points with the level of our knowledgeability because not still those Euro and the American can be so smart and intelligent like we do in some comparisons and not still all of those those foreigners are even fluent to reading and writing like we do.
Reading and writing is just a skill so you can not be recommended for this insult @ OP

Op your post is quite instructive but I don't know if the story of your father losing his land for not putting a structure on the land is real or hypothetic because being a community land or land he bought within, he would have gotten wind of that part of the clause that says he has to do that or lose the land, at least someone would have come to remind him of that or is it that all in had in the neighborhood are foes and no single friend? Grin

Anyway, we get the message though and I know say e don sink well well say person need to go through document wey you want sign because once you sign am, it means you have agreed to everything written on it. Likewise as Op give as example, I don hear of incidence wey some crooks and fraud minded people go change document of land of 1 plot and redo it to 2 plots and give owner to sign, so if owner no go through that column for how many plots wey him want sell, and if him go ahead to sign two instead of one, na court case be that oo. So we need to read specifications before we sign documents or agreement make you no use your hand sign yourself into prison.

Bro you really nail this one, I no dey like to dey read diz terms and condition.years back, my friend bin convinced me to invest with a forex company,as I reach d company, dem com give me form say make I fill am,after I finish filling the form,I no even bother to read the terms and conditions and the funniest part be say, d customer care com ask me say weda I don read the terms and conditions,I com tell  her No, say the write too plenty to read say make she forget about that one. like diz eh,before I sign any agreement,I dey always take my time read the terms and conditions.

I am also the same. I am as guilty as others I have issues with reading terms and conditions or manuals in general. I can say it is our tradition as Africans, or maybe as Nigerians because it is almost in our blood not me alone until you learn how to avoid it. The only way you can avoid it is through your learning culture. You have to adopt a learning culture that will force you to read because reading terms and conditions are some of the best thing everyone is expected to do. I have heard of story about people who injure themselves from machines because of a simple failure to read terms and conditions or manuals of such machines. Because of these and more, which includes when I became more open to working as a digital marketer, I have found need and necessity in reading of manuals, terms and conditions of any thing I come across with. I try to avoid the lazy spirit that disallow me from doing so.

This story dey funny well well and you no come finish am again, we no know wetin come happen later but I sure say e no end well anyways na true u dey talk o, e good make person dey read before e go sign anything, na e make I dey pity people wey dey illiterate, because some form go come out like this and dey go ask them mk dey just sign, dey go sign wetin go make dem later regret if u later explain the thing for them and I don see this kind your experience for one young man dey but why I like the guy be say as e no sabi read, e just carry the paper go meet person, make the person help am read everything, na there e know wetin e actually come from but e dey hard to really scam African man, we dey get some kind sense wey be say e dey surprise me self and if person won scam them self, e go explain tire.
