The reason why most Nigerians hate to pay tax is because they have perceived the system to be so corrupt up to the extent that they don't want to contribute their penny to fattening the pockets of those few politicians, but even as that, it's better that the country have enough revenue to keep the economy running, let it be that those in power are the ones looting it, than for everyone to hate the tax system and don't pay at all and allow the system to collapse. Any industry that generates money should always be levied to pay their tax.

Taxation in Nigerian ( and I believe in other Countries too) is unavoidable, so whether or not Nigerians like or are in support of how the revenues are spent, they’ll still need to pay their taxes after all as tax evasion is a crime and punishable by the law. So the citizens I believe don’t have more or less of a choice in this particular subject matter. But yeah you’re right, it’s better for the citizens to first perform their civil duties to avoid the state of ewo ewo   , let the fault only come from the greedy politicians who choose to loot and embezzle public funds.

Directly or indirectly I believe most of the citizens of Nigeria is paying tax this is because some companies country uses the Pay As You Earn method so your tax is directly already deducted before paying you any one salary. Tax is on e of the civil duty of a citizen so whether the government is bad or not it shouldn't stop people from paying ta.

Although we all know the government can’t allocate a tax fee without knowing the ability of the organization or little business secondly this is enough reason everyone should pay their due tax but, looking at    the economy of few countries you’ll know the common man no longer live comfortable likewise the business growth. government seems gambling websites or company of way of making money and if government will allow other businesses to work freely but gambling I don't think that government can allow it to operate freely, so gambling especially casino have their own tax they paid to any country government they establish before they can be allowed to operate, because taking tax from them is like way of boasting the country economy, so you can see gambling platforms operate in a country openly when they have done the needful to the government of the country. You are right to be skeptical, specially if you live in Nigeria or in a developing country which still suffers from problems which are nowhere to be seen in other countries in the West, or some developed countries in the east.
In my opinion, before asking for further taxation, specially taxes applied upon gambling winnings, the government needs to show anything, some improvement within society so the people of the country can trust those in power with their tax money. But that is very unlikely to happen anyways.
It would be the straw that breaks the camel's back of even after getting money from gambling tax, they did not show any improvements in the quality of life of those living in Nigeria.
And I would bet they would even start to enforce rules against tax evasion for those who win the lottery or hit a jackpot, with very long prison times and fines, so the rest of the population would not dare to try to hide money from them... sadly that is a very likely outcome for this incoming mess in Nigeria.

Just as I understand your surprise, I understand his position as well. In fact, the Nigerian people, like many people in third world countries, do not have a culture of paying taxes. Only businessmen, investors and self-employed people, who operate under legal cover, know the meaning of "mandatory taxation" and that there is always a tax withheld on any activity that generates financial returns. Unfortunately, the parallel market in Nigeria may exceed 50% of the active market volume because most activities are not declared and can therefore be considered a "black market". As for government employees, taxes are automatically deducted from their salaries or imposed by adding them to the prices of consumer products. This also applies to employees in private companies, where the owner of the company pays income taxes to employees and then deducts them from their salaries.

Imposing taxes on gambling activities means additional revenue for the state and this should be good news. But Nigerians will see this as stealing part of their profits and that the state is defrauding them.

Some people may argue that not paying their taxes would be a statement to the government. If people don’t do anything, the government will keep misusing the funds. Well, I do not think that not paying taxes is the answer as the government will just have more reasons to punish you if you do that

If you really want your government to change ways then you would need to directly say it to your government. Anyway, I know some people just use this excuse so that they do not need to pay even though they are very much capable of doing so.

Although there's always politics on it but in the end, it's always the same agenda for them and that's about the money that they're going to share from all of the taxation that they'll get including in gambling and under the tables.

If that is reality, we see that those officials see the corruption happen in their environment but they can not doing anything. They see their high levels officials involve in that corruption so that will difficult to investigate. That corruption practice was happen from a long time ago and it seems they made an organization that hide their activity from public. If one of them caught in the investigation, they can sacrifice that person to hide the most of them. It is cruel but that is what happen to the corruption. They can do many things to cover their activity and that makes too difficult to catch them.

Honestly I think we will argue about this again and again but we will never arrive at a good end, in a working government you get to see the good works and projects that are been carried out by the amount of money that is generated through tax but what do you expect from a government that was selected instead of going through the due process? Corruption has eaten the integrity of most of the politicians in Nigeria to the point that they even come on the media to brag about what they have been doing so far. You do not expect to see a positive result when the whole system is corrupt.

I will say this again, just do your part by paying your tax because of you are discovered as someone who has not been paying tax, they may decide to seal your property or get you arrested if you are not smart enough to discover their plans. It’s impossible for the government to provide anything tangible as proof of what they’re actually using all the taxes they’ve been acquiring over the years because the only purpose and place the taxes go is their pockets, well of course a few infrastructures which they use as camouflage. Because if the taxes are adequately spent, then the quality of life in Nigeria would have been at least 10X better than the present condition.

Corruption is indeed a serious problem in many countries, including Nigeria, so indeed the plan to implement a gambling tax in Nigeria has received a lot of attention and rejection from several parties, perhaps it is not wrong to apply the tax in order to keep the growth of gambling in the country under control and also the country revenue can be stable, even in order to increase tax revenue, previously the Nigerian government has legalized a lot of gambling but strangely more income and more state treasury is In fact the development of infrastructure and various facilities is not running according to the plan, Nigeria is one of the countries that has a fairly high poverty rate ratio even though in fact they have a lot of natural resources for the country income, So indeed the high level of corruption committed by officials in the country has been going on for quite a long time and according to some existing surveys, Nigeria is currently on the list of 145 out of 180 countries with the highest corruption in the world.

Well, that's exactly what I think and maybe that's also the reason why some people prefer to avoid paying taxes especially in Nigeria, if citizens there think this way as you said that it is always difficult to find solutions to economic problems then surely they will also think that paying taxes will not change the situation, and maybe they also think that paying taxes will only make officials richer. But if we think from another perspective, then it is also possible that the government's goal in imposing taxes on gambling is to change the country's condition for the better through the tax funds donated, but I will only believe it if everything is done transparently.

Due to some trust issues then i coudlnt really be able to blame out some citizens to be thinking up this way specially if they are wary about that corruption is really just that
too much into their country then this is why they would really be that doing their best on not to pay up any taxes just because they've been thinking up that way that those taxes wont
really be applied that well on where it should really be that applied. Even into those first world countries on which there would really be some tendencies that citizens would really be
able to avoid on paying up taxes but we do know that everything we do like buying up goods or dealing up with some services and other stuffs are already taxed. Same goes when you do

Yes and I am quite sure when for example most of the people there are reluctant or do not pay taxes after the government implements the regulation then there is a possibility that most of the people there have thoughts in that direction, in the sense that as I said earlier that maybe they think that paying gambling taxes will not change the economic situation in their country.

On the other hand, for the problem of avoiding taxes, I think it depends on how the government implements the tax payment system, if the tax collection is really difficult for gamblers to avoid, such as the salary deduction scenario as you conveyed, then of course it is quite difficult for them to avoid paying the tax when they do not want to comply with the regulations, and so far I do not know about how the regulatory system will be implemented by the government so that gamblers cannot escape from taxes, and if it is nothing more than just an ordinary regulation in the sense that it only requires people to pay taxes without any action that makes gamblers have no other choice but to pay, then I think it is unlikely for gamblers to obey the regulation.

Well, for me, I see no reason why I'll attempt avoiding taxation, even when I don't see anything meaningful it's been used for. This is because I see nothing wrong with paying of tax, but what I'm against is the government or any other agencies try to misuse the power you've been given and using it to extort innocent and naive citizens who do not have any clue of what they're even paying, or saying I'll need to paya tax I know fully well that it's absolutely irrelevant, that's the kind of tax I'm not gonna pay.

nigeria is tax free country, that's why many investors do establish in nigeria, when you talk about gambling tax, some countries do use gambling as a source of making money and I know very well that gambling has to do with generate funds to the Country they establish, in some foreign countries they uses gambling as a means of making money, like source of economy boost up, but in nigeria they kicked against all those things that do give money, but as they realize that gambling can give money its when they lift tax levy on gambling which is  supposed to be, I'm not kicking against Nigerian demanding tax for any gambling business or establishment.
