I only wonder why you provided them your  email address which matters. I never do such things and use for casinos  one of my  numerous "anonymous" emails which I almost never check. ( Rare checks commonly resulted in deletion of all content in all  boxes (no matter whether it is a spam one or some others).  The letter you have received is certainly the fishing one. I'm sure the most casinos' data bases are already leaked.
Your reply is off-topic. I doubt that the OP or any other user who also mentioned here that they are receiving similar emails (including myself) have provided them with our email address. These are simple scam or phishing attempts, and the emails were likely acquired from database leaks (check haveibeenpwned to see some of the most major ones) through the hacked websites or emailing lists from the darknet. No one in the right mind would sign up for any kind of sketchy service that would address you as "beneficiary.".

On Jul 30th, I received this email  below. I did't know about it until I checked my spam folder.

Quote
Unit 2 Tolpits Lane Watford,
WD18 9RN United Kingdom

Attention: Beneficiary.

You have been approved to receive a compensation fund of £ 500,000.00 British Pound as one of the scam victims who qualified for the 2024 annual program organized by Camelot National Lottery Group United Kingdom. Your reference numbers are: XVX189298. Send your full name and address, reference number, mobile number, occupation, age. to the following email address: onwardfen1965@yandex.com

Faithfully,
Mr. Andrew Caswell
Gambling Commission Chief Executive
As I was about to delete it, I realized that throughout my years of gambling, I've noticed that online casinos are much more secure compared to lotteries, you almost never receive scam emails like this one from an online casino. That's been my personal experience. Has anyone had a different experience, particularly with online crypto casinos?

I feel like that is because a casino isn’t just focused on just the single lotteries that they run but they run so many other things and there are so many ways for threat actors to get in so they almost have to be more secure. Getting scam emails tho has nothing to do with the actual lottery or casino they are most likely coming from a threat actor group running a phishing email campaign.

I have never received an email coming from a casino where I am playing that has that kind of offer which is obviously trying to scam you; the emails I receive usually come from Yandex like the one you just received and Gmail, you can question if the emails that were being used were coming from the casino's domain like support@casino.com but if it comes from Gmail it comes from low-level scammers who are looking for a newbie to scam.
Its better to ignore emails with heading that you won or qualified to receive millions this is a scam attempts and this has been happening since the advent of email.
I also never received an email like that, because the email I use even though it is a backup email but does not experience such a thing, my passion receives an email from the casino that I use massively and they offer or promotion to its users via email, or the number of bets what was done within a month, only the message as I thought

Apart from that there is nothing like that, such as a refund or something else, even if that happened I believe that from my social media account whose email leaked and the fraudster was looking for victims randomly by making a lucrative refund money distribution.

It is good that your email's spam feature works because it didn’t go to your primary inbox and could fool you if you are not careful. If someone were to get that, it’s not that hard to see it as a scam, but it is also important that we do our own part in keeping our data safe.

Having protection and complete control over your email would help you avoid possible spam and scams.

My key takeaway from here is to have a dedicated email for gambling related activities. I use more than one emails for different gambling sites and it is difficult to tracked where issues like this originates from.

It might be complicated to have different emails for different casinos except you have to record the details and keep them safe. But for me, it is better than having just one email if you can manage them. People who usually use one email in different casinos might have security issues in all the casino accounts if one account is compromised. A hacker or scammer can easily access other casino account if they have access to one. You can easily create many anonymous emails and dedicate each to a casino.

That's been my personal experience. Has anyone had a different experience, particularly with online crypto casinos?
The entire concept behind cryptocurrency has to do with anonymity and I do not think that any crypto casino that really understand what cryptocurrency is will like to adopt the habit of regularly sending emails to customers as that can become a disturbance.
I don’t think a casino you aren’t subscribed to their newsletter would just send you a random email except they’re not professional or maybe a possible scam and no doubts that, there are still people who will fall for this cheap scam even when they know, they’re not gamblers and never got scammed and that’s because they’re greedy and wants to earn from where they didn’t sow.

A lot of persons especially from my country don’t actually take their security serious and that’s already a big issue on its own
I get slot of scam messages sent to my spam box and I’m  always very frequent over the spam box because I have to keep it clean so as to stay away from any form of their temptations.
Safety especially on the net should and ought to be a very personal thing and everyone should be responsible for themselves as far as the web and cryptocurrency is concerned.

The email you received is not from any lottery group, it is from scammers and it does not have anything to do with lotteries being insecure. As long as scammers can lay their hands on your email address, they'll send you phishing emails, and your address can leak in many ways. Your email address can even leak from the database of a crypto exchange and the scammers will try all sorts of attacks on the leaked details.

That being said, it is important to have throwaway email addresses, and you use such email addresses to register in untrusted websites, that way you don't even bother about emails that gets sent to those mailboxes.

You are funny to believe you could trust any company, this is unless they are just a rare type and you are lucky to have them then. If the management of the companies is not selling your details out, the employees who are privy to them can, so you should not trust anyone or any company.

The relieving part is that they may not need to sell your documents but contact details like emails and phone numbers. This is common with companies that are dealing with trading/investment and finances, not to mention gambling companies. Whenever I open new accounts these days, I notice my spam emails increase, does that tell you something?

That is why I have different emails for different purposes.

If it is from a verified gambling platform, they will not ask for their users' personal information since they have the data and can use it. So if there is an email that tries to offer prizes or others by asking for our personal information, then it is clear that it is an attempted fraud and further contact with them has the potential to cause us to lose money. And because of this, we as internet users, especially gamblers, must be more aware and vigilant of fraudulent actions on the internet and do not let us be tempted and become victims of them.

Never experienced this thu but I can't tell if I have them on my spam box since I don't regularly check my spam box. However, casino don't send such messages to their users if not for marketing update and promotional mails, and it automatically goes to their spam box except for an authorization codes or something similar.
But to me i don't think that message is real message just as what @Steptowealth said.

You are absolutely right, such messages cannot be sent by casinos to you directly, it's a pure scam... asking you some vital informations should make you realize that it's a fraudulent stunt ..there are good platforms you can use , ensure you always do a proper research before investing your money into any of these casino sites, if you are Depositing crypto currency you have to be extra careful because a lot of people are now getting scammed through this means

I have an email in my spam from C O I N B A S E but the sender is actually cs.shutterfly.com. If you are getting an email from a company, normally it is going to have the company's name in the sender of the email.

Don't fall for their stupidity.
Have you realized that mostimes, they could use an email with the same name; only a patch or symbol would make a difference which, to some extent is able to catch the vulnerable and gullible ones?
You have been approved to receive a compensation fund of £ 500,000.00 British Pound as one of the scam victims who qualified for the 2024 annual program organized by Camelot National Lottery Group United Kingdom.
Man, don't fall for this cheap scam! The receiving email isn't the same and doesn't bear any licencing authority validation. The first question should have been - have you been a victim of any rug pull before? What specifically was the amount they made away with? what makes you think the the National lottery could take it upon themselves to allocate 900* the size of your loss without any implications?
Nothing in the trashcan is worth spending time with... Stop looking in there!

I always check my spam folders because some of the queries that I get and important ones are categorized as spam even though they're automated messages for which I am expected to come. But with this kind of email that OP received, it's a scam. They are fun to read until they want you to click on a link that will lead you to a "form" for the compensation that they are telling you. Fortunately, most email providers don't allow that when the message is categorized as spam, the link aren't clickable and that's a good measure. But still, we as individuals, we don't fall for that anymore.

Yep, it's either real spam or something even more interesting, in my opinion Grin Even though I do check my spam folder, I do think it's a fishing letter.

I don't understand what you are implying. First of all, it's not spam from some official lottery site, it's just spam mail using lottery as a bait. Secondly, you mentioning casinos as secure than lotteries because you don't receive spam from them, how would you know if the scammers who sent you this spam didn't get your email from some casino breach or purchased email list from them?

My key takeaway from here is to have a dedicated email for gambling related activities. I use more than one emails for different gambling sites and it is difficult to tracked where issues like this originates from.

It might be complicated to have different emails for different casinos except you have to record the details and keep them safe. But for me, it is better than having just one email if you can manage them. People who usually use one email in different casinos might have security issues in all the casino accounts if one account is compromised. A hacker or scammer can easily access other casino account if they have access to one. You can easily create many anonymous emails and dedicate each to a casino.
Creating several anonymous emails for security reasons is a good idea but also comes with its dangers too whereby you may not be able to access you account in situations where you are locked out and you don't have the details of the mail any longer since you didn't take cognizance of it because you didn't attach importance to it. in situations of forgotten password, that too could be challenging aswell and may lead to the you loosing the account and starting all over again to creating a new account.

having a dedicated email for gambling activities remains the best just like you have mentioned, that way you will be able to get control over you gambling activities from a single email without having to battle the stress of running around several emails and login details.

As I was about to delete it, I realized that throughout my years of gambling, I've noticed that online casinos are much more secure compared to lotteries, you almost never receive scam emails like this one from an online casino. That's been my personal experience. Has anyone had a different experience, particularly with online crypto casinos?
I actually got the opposite where many scam attempts come from crypto casinos, and their scam attempts are more reasonable and there could already be victims because the email does not mention a large amount, only thousands or tens of thousands of dollars so that if there are gamblers who are not careful, it is very possible to fall into their trap, especially for small gamblers, it will definitely be impossible to withdraw funds up to millions of dollars but if it is only thousands or even below that, it could be a trap, that's why gamblers have to be careful if they have never played at that casino, how could they possibly get an email about the withdrawal, it is very impossible.

Online casinos have come to learn that they'll be primary targets of hacking attacks as they deal with a lot of money and aren't going to be afforded much if any institutional protection if anything happens.
So, at least the good ones, will employ some good security IT staff to keep their service up and running smoothly, ensuring the security of users behind the scenes.

And also, casinos don't need to share your data with anyone. Already just by playing there you're spending a lot of money and they earn by the volume you generate anyway. So they will never share your data. There are cases though when a casino will shut down and completely sell off all of their assets including customer email addresses and accounts. That's the reason that when I create an account to a new crypto casino I try to use an email alias and new password/username combos all the time.

When it comes on dealing into online world then it would really be that ideal that you should really be creating a new email for a specific purpose rather than on making use of your own main email on which
it could really be spammed out by tons of shit emails into your spam folder or even with your main inbox. If you do see something shit emails such as this then by just that using up your own common sense
then you would directly be able to tell that it is really just that trying out to scam you or whatever shady purpose it would be. This is why it would really be that best that you should really be sensible into the things around
and never ever make yourself that dealing up with something without having that proper awareness on what it is. If you are recieving something that you do know that you arent expecting something
then its 100% scam.

We've seen this thing for a very long time and thats the reason we do have that spam folder which is really common on gmail (based on experience) from the word alone
then you could really be able to understand that all of those emails comes into that portion are considered spam and something that must avoid, but there are instances
that important emails would really be going into spam folder, which it would really be meaning out that you should really be that at least checking out
specially if you are expecting for some email.

Definitely, they need to always upgrade their security as we are talking about money here. Not only of their clients but also their vaults as well. Since hackers are always on the lookout to find the next victim, they are deploying sophisticated softwares to penetrate these potential targets.

And with such incidents, it is always best to use reputable casinos and limit the exposures of your personal details to gambling sites that you are really using and not to every casino you encounter of.
