Hello folks,

I've been working on a small project for some time now and wanted to share it here.
My aim was to build something that involves Bitcoin as I am fascinated by it.
Basically I picked up the idea of the million dollar page and infused it with Bitcoin. 
It's nothing special but as I'm not familiar with all that technology I think it came out quite okay.

Many have tried this before, going after the same idea as that Million Dollar Homepage.  But all of them fail and no one's been able to pull it off since. 

The problem is, that website needed a freakish amount of traffic and people willing to fork over piles of cash for a tiny little banner ad.  Good luck finding that perfect storm again! It was such a wild new idea at the time, but that was almost twenty years ago when the internet was still so shiny and new and  everyone just had to check out the site and buy themselves a tiny piece of internet history. 

But those days are gone my friend.  Nowadays people know the deal with online ads and microtransactions.  You'd need another real unique, mindblowing idea to drum up that kind of crazy attention.  That million dollar page was legendary, a one-time wildcard success.

Yes agree, its a long shot. But so far I haven't seen one with exactly this kind of setting, where you pay with Bitcoin/Lightning and you get what you pay for. No option for anyone to override it.
Additionally I also included a raffle so there is an incentive to give it a try, so I would think its not really about advertisement, but rather like a game of chance to some extend.
Would like to pay out a Bitcoin to someone, but lets see. Even if it does not catch on, I learned a lot by building it.

Well, this won't catch on, but experience is everything!   Every couple months someone comes along with a similar idea - and that is the key - similar. 

Why don't you design an advertising system that is dynamic, and people can upgrade advertisements by participation instead of payment?   A grid system is OK, but why limit yourself to owning specific boxes at specific locations?

The project is cool, but you need to automate the pay process that way would be easier for the user to select the matrix and pay for it. And i think that's the hard part to code.

Since you only need deposits (Without withdrawals) then you could use an API, and not a full node for your project, And remember to wait until 1 confirmation before letting the users draw, because they could do a double spend.

Maybe its a long shot because, based on the setting and how the ads will look, what benefit are the advertisers going to get from buying a spot? If you can tell the benefits and that these benefits will materialize, then you will have a reason to proceed in building this platform, but if it becomes a failure, then on your next project you will have something to work on what fails on your last platform.

I protested quite hard when this guy came foreward with his idear because he was doing some shady stuff to get his pixels "sold", combined with grossly overestimating the value of his pixels without having *any* trust.
In the end it was more or less proven that the only pixels he ever sold were to his sockpuppet account (which he used to promote scam websites).

I have nothing against your idear, but the odds of pulling this off are defenately not in your favour.

IMO this is when you should also create page for testnet version, along with statement what'll you do with tBTC you received.

What is this about?

The idea is simple: Offering 1,000,000 pixel for 1,000 satoshis each. Hence, 'The Billion Satoshis Page'.

Some will remember the Million Dollar Homepage or Satoshis Place.
This site combines some aspects of those two while also adding the ability for someone to win 1 Bitcoin.

Interesting, but is it fully working now? I followed the instruction and having issues placing the image  that I uploaded on the square so I cannot proceed, I think an instructional video will help those who are interested to placing an ads on the square, especially for noobs like me  , you can create one and post it on YouTube and post the link in the FAQ.
You never know if this could become a hit so follow it up and actively promote it.

I'm sure by posting it here you want our feedback and suggestions. This kind of concept used to be very popular. I stumbled on one site similar to yours many years ago but not using Bitcoin as Bitcoin was not yet popular back then, after that I never encounter this pixel advertisement.
Marketing on the internet is ever-changing, and some concepts do return to make a comeback. I don't know the potential right now; its better to populate it with popular sites to attract advertisers.
As suggested by another member, make a video tutorial on how the platform works, there are newe business owners who do not know how these things work.

I'm not certain what you mean by automated, but it is already possible to select the blocks and pay it immediately with bitcoin/lightning. If added a example video to the FAQ in the "How does it work" section.
Let me know if that is what you mean.

My goal was not really to target any advertisers. It was more in the direction of creating a Bitcoin community driven canvas art, as I love the randomness aspect of how these projects come together.
But you likely are correct that the probability to win a price is not enough for people to join in and advertisers will only join if there is already some traffic involved.

Yes this was also on of my concerns from the start, as I cannot build trust with the participants. They would likely have to join the project because of the "art" and community aspect not primarily because there might be a raffle associated with it. I thought about a few alternative ways but they all involved much more work and since this is my first web project I wanted to keep it simple.

That's what I wanted to say OP is asking for almost a million dollars in Bitcoin, that only works if you're the first and your idea goes viral. Even satoshis.place worked, because they were the first to do it on the Bitcoin Lighting Network, it was cheap, and it was one of the few ways to test and use LN at very low transaction fees. I painted some pixels there myself a few times.

I like it! Give me something to do with my Testnet 4 coins. You may want to set a limit, so the whole thing won't be sold instantly.

But a "receipt" which each holder could trade with each other because it's a Runes token. Plus probably also give "receipt" holders the ability to change what was posted on the page, no? The more users the page has = more attention, and therefore more value for their "receipts".

"Copycats" are OK, but if a person actually wants to copy something, then that person should add something to the original idea to "invent" a new idea and get credit for "inventing" something "new". I believe those developers in Silicon Valley copied/stole ideas from each other during the early days of computing in the late 1970s to the early 1980s. The "mouse" was invented by Xerox, which Apple "stole", and Steve Jobs/Apple was given all of the credit for the invention.

So OP, why wouldn't change the concept? Why insist that you earn xx million from there by selling pixels?
There are other ways even to monetize it at all.

For example, it would be good to have some historical pages through this concept. You can start from this forum, there are so many important moments, a forum of members who could occupy pixels.

Apart from the idea, I like how you've cached the progress in the browser. Dragging the image to fill the grids looks like a great way to handle the pixels/images. You should start sending cold emails/messages to some casinos/crypto start-ups to get this going! On the tech side, I wonder how you store the grids -> image maps? I wanted to do something like this on my own for a hobby project.
