Turkish economic miracle

Many people ask a very reasonable question: why, despite chronic inflation, Turkey manages to remain an economically developed country. Grandiose construction projects are being carried out in Turkey: bridges and tunnels connecting continents, such as the Eurasia Tunnel (the world's first two-story automobile tunnel running under the Bosphorus), dams, canals. The construction of the longest suspension bridge over the Dardanelles Strait is nearing completion. The question is, where do the funds come from in the conditions of inflation?

In my opinion, the secret lies in the fact that Turkey has managed to establish itself as a country reliable for investment. The country has a developed construction industry, and workers from Turkish construction companies successfully work in other countries. (I remember being in Moscow in 1980 and seeing Turkish construction workers working on the reconstruction of Petrovsky Passage, which surprised me. Couldn't Muscovites work in their place? It seems they couldn't under developed socialism.) Turkey is the largest player in the global construction industry. Turkish construction companies implement projects not only in their own country, but also in dozens of countries in Europe, Asia and Africa. For example, the American magazine Engineering News Record (ENR) published a list of 250 largest international construction companies, of which Turkish ones have occupied more than 40 positions in this list for several years.

Turkey produces a wide range of products of heavy and light industry, developed light industry and agriculture. Turkish brands of household appliances and especially the clothing industry are well-known, the quality of which is at a high level. It is difficult to find an item from a ship and a car to a needle that would not be produced in Turkey. All these goods are exported, for example, unlike Russia, which, except for the Kalashnikov, does not produce anything for export. The tourism business also provides considerable income. Again, unlike Russia, Turkey does not have its own hydrocarbon resources, but skillful international policy and an excellent geostrategic location between Europe and Asia have enabled the country to become an oil and gas hub for Europe. Turkey, together with Azerbaijan, are making significant efforts to implement the ideology of pan-Turkism and create an economic and strategic union of Turkic countries, similar to the EU. The One Belt - One Road transport project will soon be implemented through the territory of the Turkic countries, linking China and Europe, which is a revival of the ancient Great Silk Road. (1,2,3) In short, Turkey fully provides itself with everything it needs, including military products. This circumstance is a reliable protection against inflation, otherwise how can one explain such a stable immunity of the country to inflation.

Well I think you have clearly stated why the miracle is not a miracle - persisten hyperinflation. Inflation is a tax on you citizens paid when you try to buy any goods from abroad. It means how your currency looses value versus the rest of the world.

Turkiya is progressing in many fronts, but if you ignore the terrible effect of inflation in the common people, you are really missing out on the whole idea of progress and economy - serving a society.
