There is a new token launched on 18th December named Pudgy Penguins (PENGU) and listed on coinmarketcap https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/pudgy-penguins/ . Some Top-level centralized exchanges like Binance, Bitget, Kucoin, OKX and Bybit listed them on the same day. Their official website is https://www.pudgypenguins.com/, and their official airdrop page is this one: https://claim.pudgypenguins.com/.

However, scammers are faster at creating phishing websites to drain your wallet.

I found out about this token quite by accident, now that I see this phishing site you mention, I would rather think it's just another one in a series of new shittokens. Meme tokens with their "funny" names make it difficult to discern which ones might transition into a "serious" token.

I found it from the coinmarketcap when I was checking my portfolio and which coins have been pumping lately. A few days ago, the entire market crashed, with some exceptions. I was holding some BGB (a token by Bitget), which was pumping a lot. Then I was checking what other coins were pumping; I found that PENGU was another one that was pumping a lot. I did not checked their project, but yesterday I noticed a phishing website.

I actually came across the PENGU project on the day it was listed on Binance. They indeed had an airdrop to reward EVM and Solana users with project tokens through their activities. This is one of the easiest projects that didn’t impose complex requirements to qualify for the airdrop. Additionally, the airdrop claim page will remain open from its launch for up to 88 days, if I’m not mistaken.

Based on this, scammers exploited this and the hype surrounding this meme coin to create phishing links to steal wallets from people searching for free tokens. The good news is that MetaMask has flagged this site. Thank you for alerting airdrop hunters about this matter!

But I remembered this one because someone was shilling it to me saying it's going to be bigger than bitcoin in a few years. I couldn't help but laugh at that claim. I checked their airdrop page by connecting my ETH and Solana wallet. The page says that I have already collected the PENGU or that I do not have PENGU, which means I am not eligible for the airdrop. Were you able to claim any PENGU from the airdrop? I am not too interested, but free money is always sweet. LOL.

I don't know if it's just me. I've come to discover that I easily switch off whenever someone tells me a coin/token is going to be bigger than Bitcoin. It's the audacity for me because I know it can't be sustainable. Price can quickly rise higher than Bitcoin but it's momentarily. It's never sustained. Look at what happened with Yearn Finance (YFI) in 2021 when it got to as high as over $90,000 per token and its current price now that has dipped massively.

Imagine people bought YFI at 70K or 80K and compare their current position. I usually check the ATH of a coin before I buy it, I expect a coin to beat its previous ATH after each four or five years. But, that is not always going to happen for some coins and YFI is one of them. Look at a very popular coin Litecoin. Its ATH was $350 and now it's around a hundred dollars while Bitcoin breaks it's ATH a couple of times in the last few months.

YFI actually got to $90k+ and it was the activities of buyers that got it there. So, yes people bought it at $90k+, not just at $80k. FOMO must've caused it that investors rushed and bought that high. It's the same thing that's happening with some coins now. We never can tell when a coin/token will hit its ATH and then we're caught buying the top.

I usually check the ATH of a coin before I buy it, I expect a coin to beat its previous ATH after each four or five years. But, that is not always going to happen for some coins and YFI is one of them. Look at a very popular coin Litecoin. Seriously, I doubt too if YFI will even get back to half of its ATH price. As for Litecoin, I believe it can still surpass its last circle ATH once alts season sets in.
