Violation of students right where? Back then, as well as I can remember when I was still in school, it was totally unacceptable to even carry or go along with your smartphone to school. During school hours, they expected that you leave your phone at home so that you could concentrate on the activities in school. That was the norm, and I am very sure it is still in practice today. Apart from regular school hours, the other hours in the day where students can actually spend on screen time are there, so I see this sort of development by the Brazilian governments as a step toward improving education and learning.

It's really either schools are forced to stop students from using their phones OR create an alternative that uses technology to assist in learning. Not the digital quiz bs but rather something engaging (game like quizzes and stuff). Latter looks like it'd be hard to implement and plan around so I reckon most would choose the latter. It still doesn't stop kids from using their phones at home and not studying though.

Wasn't as strict as this in my case. We were allowed to go to school with our phone BUT we weren't allowed to use it on premises or during classes. Most of us used it just to communicate with our parents lol. Still, I 100% agree that there's nothing being violated here, it's not like phones are something people are REQUIRED to bring to schools. I reckon they can just set some rules to those who are allowed, and for those who can, leave their phones at an authority allowed to handle them at school so that they can't use it.

This is a difficult line to navigate. Because in our country, gadgets are needed to study. Computers and televisions, these are tools that allow for better studying. This allows students to actively participate in the topic that is being taught.

I don’t think it’s exactly a violation.

However it proposes a lot of questions. Smartphones are used for communication and in case of emergencies, how will these students contact their guardians? I think complete restriction is a bit too much. It can be brought in school but should only be used during specific time of the day. It also depends on how old these students are.

ideally, smartphones are supposed to help students and teenagers positively and help them learn faster thann they would have done without having access to the smart phone but realistically, a lot of students are more into abusing the smart phones and rather than making use of it to solve their academic problem, they made it a major distraction that prevent them from reading and expose them to content that sends a message that education is a waste of time.

there is a popular statement among young tanager in a part of the world that school is a scam. this came about by the kind of flashy lifestyle these youths see among other youth who are of their age and that are not even educated in the first place, such kind of information that spreads on the media has a way of discouraging a once serious student into becoming less intentional with his/her studies. if smart phones are regulated among school children such that they are allowed access to sites and platform that can only aid them academically, it will go a long way in encouraging productivity among students. if it is possible, a device can be created that is to be used by the students which doesn't contain things that are going to be against their academic and developmental needs. denying them access to some things is never infringement on their right but rather a way of protecting the people that are the future leaders of our society.

If there is anything like this then we should expect the country to provide computers to the whole schools in the country, and there should be a library where students would have time to study and make their research online with a specific time frame or either given days to have access to the school computers. It's actually bad for school or a country to entirely restrict student not to make use of their cell phones or even their smartphones, it would make sense they have a phone free day (s) where they can have access to their phones it's mostly implies to those who are in boarding schools that doesn't go home after school rather live inside school. The way they also have visiting days so should the use of smartphone be implemented to them than banning the use of phone between those who are in school bracket.

Is that really a good initiative done by President? or he is just over reacting on what he think possible abuse of using that device in school. Since somehow smartphones is useful for students especially that there are many things to do on that devices. Although we cannot deny the fact that sometimes this can cause disturbance but if the parents knows how to discipline their child and remind them not to use their phones while they are in middle of class for sure everything will be fine.

I think it's a difficult thing to enforce because of a number of reasons. Obviously kids might need their phones for their own safety, walking to & from school etc. They use their phones to research to help with school work. I see why limiting phone use during school hours might be important but I don’t think you can totally remove their access to their device.

I agree, banning the carrying and use of phones at school seems a bit excessive and unnecessary since smartphones are almost a part of our lives today. I believe that parents who allow their children to use smartphones have their own reasons and one of the important reasons is that they can contact their children in case of emergency or can monitor what their children are doing and where they are. So banning students from using smartphones at school may cause more harm than we think. In this case, as long as the school sets out rules and requires students to strictly follow them, such as not using phones during class and only using them during breaks or when permitted by the teacher, everything will be fine, IMO.

Whether we like it or not smartphones have become a part of our lives, if you forget your smartphone at home, it'll seem like an extension of you have left you. Smartphones can be a distraction to students who should be focusing on their studies, that is if they're using it for things that are not related to studies in their schools. We should understand that there are applications on the smartphone that are helpful to students, for example they can get almost every educational information that they need on Google site.

Phones are important for communication, there could be need for students to reach their parents or other people urgently during school hours, so a total ban on students not to carry their phones to school is not necessary. What is important is that they shouldn't engage with their smartphones during lecture hours.

According to the article, it looks like the government has done a survey and the majority of parents and students agree. I can't really trust the latter since there's a high chance their parents or the schools influence their voting in one way or the other. It's possible that the sample is not enough to determine how the majority of students feel. I wonder why don't they require students to submit their phones as mentioned above. I don't think it's that hard to implement. CMIIW.

Anyway, as long as they have a way to contact their parent from school I think it's fine. At least that's what happened to me when I was in junior and senior high school. I don't know how different it is in Brazil or other countries, but I expect the regulation will just bring more troubles if there's no alternative for things like that. Not to mention the article mentioned that the schools have problems with enforcing regulations already.

We saw the importance of smartphones in education during the COVID-19. Most schools had to go online due to lockdowns. Smartphones become an important tool for children to learn. Phones have also been a bedrock of some children because they help them to learn and engage in other teaching and learning processes.

But it has also been a big form of distraction because they now spend more time on social media than on academic materials. I support the ban on the use of phones because research has shown that students perform better when they are not using phones for social activities. I don't think it violates their right because most of them are minors or dependents who don't really know the implications of their choices.

Instead of trying to stop its use, how about trying to teach these children who have an interest in technology how to use it properly to be productive. Most children right now are more interested in using their smartphones for social media which is a big waste of time in most cases. If the government can take it upon themselves to properly teach these children proper use of the Internet it will go a long way in improving and increasing the productivity of these children before they become adults that can then contribute better to the society.

I haven't been inside school for very long time but while I was studying carrying the mobile inside class was prohibited and anyone get caught with mobile may face disciplinary action but nowadays kids are deep into the smartphone addiction which is really bad in my opinion. I would say government should do something better, like a kid should not have access to them for most of the time in a day and whenever they do it should be used under the moderation of a parent.

I stopped using social media for years after realising how much time I am wasting in it, after hard lesson hope everyone doesn't go through that to realise that.

As we all know the world keeps revolving and thus everything changes with time, therefore back then and this present generation ain't same thing so this generation are finding it hard to comply with the principles of the old generation cause they feel it's worn out to them.
But that's not the case, it gets so funny seeing the younger one's in this era finding it difficult to make use of their brains in learning rather they prefer to fast track their progress by making use of smartphones and the rest of them which is clearly making them incompetent and not confident to prove a point when they find themselves in it, so i concur that there should be limit in the use of smartphones by adolescent in school.

The rules is okay by me if you ask because before the evolution of smartphones, those that went to school then never had the chance to use them, and they did well in school and passed excellently well. Those are the people that invested this smartphones that this generations are now using. There is need for the regulation of it because it has caused more disadvantages and harm than any advantage to the school student who are bent on end eating to use it always and have seen it as the only way to make heir learning better. Even without your smartphones in colleges, you can pass your exams and have good grades. Smartphones are distractions at that tender age, later in the university, you can use them better as I feel that is the place it is most needed and would be taken good use of instead of now. Students are more vulnerable and the internet is a scary place to expose those teenagers to, so regulations are indeed needed for this to be achievable.

Smartphone has negative effect on the mental health of children because it can check the mindset of baby . We are watching the Young generation which is attracted by smartphone and it will be destroy because they are watching many bad things which I don't want to discuss on that platform because that is moraly not good for any person.
