Robots and humanoids to take over classrooms at private school

Abu Dhabi: Robots will soon be teaching basic math and other subjects at a private school in Abu Dhabi.
Merryland International School in Mussafah has launched what it claims is the first robotic lab in a UAE school, with more than 30 cutting edge robots including humanoids with built-in intelligence.

Humanoid AISOY Raspberry Pi robot will teach basic addition and subtraction while Nao, the 57-cm tall Evolution Humanoid robot from France, will help special needs children.

Nao can walk, talk and even recognise emotions. The programmable robot can also be used to explore research topics in robotics, computer science, human-machine interaction and even social sciences.

Actually, I'm all for this in American schools and colleges. If socialism is going to be instilled in the youth, we might as well not be paying for it to be taught. Put all these tenured mouth pieces out to pasture.

Well things like this were science fiction until five years ago or so, but technology is moving faster than most people expected and this will bring so much confusion and problems into their lives.

That's going to be a shitty way to be brought up in a school, it will definitely cause all sorts of problems, that said at least it will make it easier for kids to take over the classrooms so they can have some freedom in their lives since the robot won't be able to handle them lol

I assure you human teachers can cause problems to children aswell. Don't tell me you never heard of abuses in your school from professors. You fear people of tomorrow will be less social because of this shift? I can't say that's for sure, but at least they won't be traumatized.

I suppose so if you think about it like that to be honest, it's not just robots, I'm hardly a technophobe I generally worry about the education children are going to receive now considering the shitty experience I've had and I suspect they're going to have an even shittier education than me. It's less to do with social aspects in life and more to do with the fact that a robot isn't smart enough to answer the kind of questions a child will have about life.

Teaching is not only about showing how to do things, it is also about assessing the child's strength, weaknesses, understanding and change teaching methods accordingly. How could a robot do that? A robot teacher is just like watching a video.

It seems these days that teachers are no longer teachers, they are tellers.  They tell you what to hear while overlooking the entire goal they're trying to accomplish - to teach.

No robot can give the real classroom experience that teachers provide, regardless of how well programmed the robot is. it takes more than knowing math to effectively tutor a class about math. if robots can teach students in class, then there is no point going to school in the first place. On YouTube, a lot of the lectures you get in the classroom are available, and most of them are even better explained on YouTube. I would rather sit back and get lectures on YouTube or Coursera than go to a school where robots will lecture me.

When it comes to education, especially for children, we don't just teach them math, literature and foreign languages...They also need to learn about ethics and manners, and to do that, sometimes we need to put ourselves in their shoes to know what they want and think. From there, we will have appropriate teaching methods and approaches to help students progress quickly and achieve better results . I don't think robots can do these things to replace humans, and educating children is to create perfect humans in terms of intelligence, personality, spirit, and  physicality...not to train a new generation of  robots .

Well The Emirates are always ahead with tech & standards of living. They are a very rich area & lots of wealthy people live there & send their children to schools there. I don’t see why this can’t work well & give the children a good standard of education. Good luck to them I say.
