Anyone expressing their righful opinion should be free to do so anywhere, but particularly in Uni. The law already regulates what types of expressions constitute an punishable offence - for example: you go to the Capitol with thousands of people with intent to interrupt a democratic process - that is illegal. You are in a Uni saying that what Israel is doing in Gaza amounts to genocide - that is not illegal, regardless of the accuracy of both.

Democracy is build on check and balances. Trump has successfully cowed into obedience the DoJ, most judiciary, the Civil Service in general, the FBI, the CIA...

You can tell a dictator when you see one - but I hope I am wrong and he will actually step down in due time and do not try to perpetuate himself one way or another.

He pardoned the people [seditionists] in the January 6th Capitol Riots.
Let's see how the current peaceful decentralized protests go.

50 years ago money in politics would have been a scandal;
now we have congress voting on laws and profiting in the stock markets without a hint of shame, super pacs, corporate lobbyists, billionaires with chainsaws calling citizens parasites while proudly buying elections >getting access to all of our systems. A president who brags about how much money his friends made with his on and off tariffs.
And a distracting news cycle continuously entertaining while missing the entire fucking point (or hoping that we do).

Feckless politicians operating under the influence of money.

(1976 precedent Buckley v. Valeo) Money has free speech  ---> more than a single person.

That is one of things which disturbs me the most, how the Republican party and the Trump administration have lower the standard for anyone to become the president of the country and also how they have successfully desensitized the people of the country into accepting a new political reality, in which the political and dominant class has more capabilities to continue to steal from taxpayers, cut social benefits and now they are directly threatening the biggest and most influencial universities in their country so they cut programs and policies which are contrary to their political views... We have become so desensitized, it is possible the presidency of the USA to become a dictatorship in a relatively short period of time and without us realizing it..

The people of the USA need to be very careful and keep their system of check and balances, while they still can hold all this non-sense back.

The universities have certainly been influential but they have mainly been influential in the wrong way because they are incredibly unprofessional and the people who run those universities are fucking morons. Anyone who still thinks that degrees from universities have much of any value whatsoever is delusional and evil. Universities promote violence. There is no fucking excuse. And since universities promote violence, they should be replaced with something else. Nothing tells me that you are a stupid fucking idiot than a degree from a university. This especially includes undergraduate degrees which are a fucking joke, liberal arts degrees, and degrees for unrelated jobs. Only a stupid idiot would look at a university that admits students based on race and think that that (I apologize for using the word 'that' twice in a row) university is a legitimate institution. Only a stupid and evil fucking moron would look at a university that promotes violence and hate whoever speaks out about this.

Of course, Hispo is one of those stupid and evil idiots who hates me for speaking out about this because Hispo is evil. THERE IS NO FUCKING EXCUSE, ASSHOLES!

getting back to the topic

the solution to the gov demands and the university is this:
if any private or federal donations come with clauses.. and those clauses are not agreeable to the university.. then the university should not take the money, or if they already have taken it, they should refund the money

the university is not poor, so trying to take the fed to court saying removing the grants will harm the research and stuff.. just is a bad argument to make
the university if it wants to stick to its own political/social leaning agenda. should just decline donations that come with terms..

simply stop taking fed money.. end of

the fed could then just offer its own efficient scholarship scheme by sending funds down to the state level to evaluate students applications for scholarships

For what I read on Miracle's post, Trump is conditioning the fund to a certain ideology - to be more precise, the ideology that seems to match his voter base. He dresses up as "American Values" and all that, but he is not entitled to decide what are the US values - there are millions of people and they all have a range of values all equally "American".

Now, the fact that Trump can do something does not mean that it is ethical or correct. For example Hitler and the nazis started removing from Uni any teacher that was of certain races, ideologies or sexual orientation. They were in government - elected BTW - and could do it. So I will pose the question to you: Did the Nazi's do the right thing by clearing the Universities of people who thought differently?

I am not sure the average US citizen understands the implications of the current agenda, I just want to make sure that if someone reads this, clearly understands how all the checks and balances to the President's power are being removed, specific firms are being targeted with everyone's money, specific people are being targeted, unis are coerced... all this leads to a lack of control that looks a lot like the begining of a dictatorship.

Again, Unis in general do not promote violence. That may have been your experience.

Emm... so a Uni degree tells you people are stupid. I cannot avoid to notice that sign as Ph.D. That kind of requires a degree and then researching for a few years usually in a Uni... just saying.

I don't blame Republicans ( although I do think they're dickish ;-)), what can we honestly expect from a 2 party system? ---> I support Ranked Choice Voting as a start but our democracy has been corrupted by money for a long time. We are taught a narrative instead of actual history and our media outlets are absolutely biased by the billionaires who own them.
Anyone who has even just been on this site for 10 years can see the identity crises America is going through. We've been desensitized from the founding by not reckoning with the failure to live up to the equality of all. I think this presidents fear of "wokeism" should wake everyone TF up. All of our branches of government and the judiciary need to step up and people need to exercise their 1st amendment rights while we still have them ;-).

When I was a TA in graduate school, I taught the students about ranked-choice voting. Yes. It was in a math class. This is because we need to compare algorithms that take the ranked choices and determine a winner from all of the ballots. And there are quite a few interesting mathematical theorems (such as Arrow's impossibility theorem) about ranked choice voting. The thing to learn from this is that the only way to take all of the ballots and return a winner fairly is to have an infinite number of voters and then take an ultrafilter on the set of all voters. The ultrafilter will select a single ballot as the winner. Yea. I don't think that is realistic either since you don't even know what an ultrafilter is.

But ranked choice voting is not enough since we have a whole bunch of voters who don't care. The solution to the problem of voters who don't care is not to nag at them and shame them. We have tried shaming voters for voting for the wrong person. Shaming voters while misidentifying the problem is counterproductive and worthy of shame itself. The solution is to use some flavor of random sample voting where instead of having everyone vote on everything, a subset of the population is selected at random to vote. If only a few people vote, they will take the election more seriously and spend more time researching everything. Cryptocurrency innovator David Chaum has written about random sample voting here.

https://chaum.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Random-Sample-Voting-white_paper.pdf

If we have random sample voting where the voters take the election seriously, then we do not need primaries that help people determine who is the winner.

Primaries are horrible and rife with strategic voting as we have the following insincere strategies for primary voting:

1. To get your party to win, vote for the candidate who has the highest probability of winning the general election on the condition that he won the primary. The probabilities are freely available using prediction markets.

2. To get your party to win, register with the party that you despise and vote in the primary for a person who has no chance of winning the general election (but who won't ruin everything if this strategy backfires).

3. If there are more than two candidates in a primary, only vote for one of the two top candidates since the other candidates have no chance of winning the primary.

Primaries and elections were designed by morons who know nothing. That is why they make no sense.

But these solutions won't be implemented. This is because the universities that should be teaching students about instant runoff voting are instead promoting violence so that students get stupider and stupider. Until universities apologize for being so unprofessional, I must regard the people who graduate from these institutions as stupid and senseless morons.

miracles post is about museums and stuff, not the letter sent to harvard
here is the letter to harvard
https://www.harvard.edu/research-funding/wp-content/uploads/sites/16/2025/04/Letter-Sent-to-Harvard-2025-04-11.pdf

Now, the fact that Trump can do something does not mean that it is ethical or correct. So I will pose the question to you: Did the Nazi's do the right thing by clearing the Universities of people who thought differently?

most donations from anyone to a university come with terms. EG asking the funds to only be ear-marked for scholarships. donating funds only if they rename a hall to as the [donators] hall.
if a university doesnt like the deal, decline it.. simple
harvard are not poor. they are not forced to accept the fed money. but if they accept a donation with conditions. then they are locked into contract

that said, if a lecturer that suppose to be teaching math is trying to get students to tell their parents that the students birthname is DEAD. and that the student is now a different gender that needs to take drugs for the rest of their life.. should that lecturer be doing that? do they even have the qualifications outside of mathematics to even be a gender therapist? wouldnt it also be illegal to be giving medical and psychological therapy if they are not a medical expert of that speciality

I am not sure the average US citizen understands the implications of the current agenda, I just want to make sure that if someone reads this, clearly understands how all the checks and balances to the President's power are being removed, specific firms are being targeted with everyone's money, specific people are being targeted, unis are coerced... all this leads to a lack of control that looks a lot like the begining of a dictatorship.

ever thought that harvard took bidens DEI money to go against harvards scholarly standards and instead become a de-gender cult. where by it was biden that coerced harvard into insane policy

harvard should and could just decline funds that dictate things that take students away from the education mission/curriculum they signed up for.. but they didnt during the biden administration

my view is a university is a university to teach certain subjects. if its going against its speciality and instead becoming culty by only accepting people based on certain visible attributes rather then skill and talent and interest in the course curriculum. then whomever is paying them and whomever is being paid to go against its basic scholarly mission, the money needs to be stopped and the willing party to accept the funds and terms needs to be sacked

..
personally
if someone wants to do gender studies, whereby some DEI cult donated funds, with terms to want to offer scholarships for gender studies courses. fine
but ensure they hire a medical and psychological specialist in gender studies to teach good practises.
whereby harvard can accept or decline the funds if they dont like the terms.

where as if another donator, such as the fed only wants to fund STEM then STEM should only teach STEM using those funds with lecturers that just specialise and just teach stem

if students want to learn about genders then there should be a proper course/curriculum available and NOT be mashed up inside of things like STEM which then takes over actually learning STEM and turns STEM courses into some woke culture activist recruitment thing

EG if someone went into a mathematics class. stood up and shouted how their preference is to talk about banana's for the next month.. the lecturer should not go along with the student by only talking about different species of banana, different skin colour and flavour for the month. out of fear of discriminating someones weak sensibilities .. the lecturer should tell the student to sit down, shut up, and learn math as thats what class they are in currently
(swap banana for DEI topic to see my point)

students should be free to talk and have preferences in their free time. but learning time should specialise in the learning of the topic the course is about

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.

You have it all wrong. Universities are extremely unprofessional, so everything they do is backwards and all whacked out. If a single student causes a disruption and threatens the professor, then the university will naturally side with the disruptive student and say fuck you to the professor and all the other students. This is because universities are fucked up pieces of shit and 90+ percent of degrees have absolutely no value whatsoever. This includes all undergraduate degrees, all non-STEM liberal arts degrees, and all degrees given to people who don't even work in the field that they went to college for. They won't even acknowledge any wrongdoing because they are that fucked up. If you disagree with me, then you are just a stupid fucking idiot who is too fucking stupid to know that you are dumb. The Dunning-Kruger effect says that retards are too retarded to even know that they are retarded.

Now, you have written over and over that ALL universities promote violence, that all are unprofessional, etc,,, However, again by logic, you do not know all the Universities, you did have a case in which you feel wrongly treated.

That is not really related to a Government trying to impose the rules of what can and cannot be said on campus.

I have seen a few Unis in my life, by no means all of them - they seem to grow on trees lately. And... I have to agree in some of what you say for at least some of the cases. I have seen institutions that have lost their north and are little else than scam businesses, teachers that just enjoy being b*stards, students that come in a Ferrari (ehem), mistreated TA (yes, seen it) and all short of wrong decissions that harm students and nearly in all cases - extreme nepotism and "old boys clubs", a genuine despisal of students...

But I have also seem a place where students can speak freely, where research creates wonderful things that help humanity and some teachers still care about quality and progress. A blanket statement saying that (a) you are right (b) anyone disagreen is (choose your F word) is useless - does not convince, does not add anything and shows extreme bias.

J, I think you need to re-think about what you have and what you can do with it - and it is probably not wasting your time trying some "get back at them", at least not like this. The best way would probably be widely successful yourself and then drop by to say hi.

All people with just B.S. degrees from universities are fucking stupid and evil morons who know absolutely nothing. People with M.S. degrees are probably stupid. To be non-stupid, one needs a scientific doctorate (and I guess people who never went to a fucking university are exempt from my insults too). I have made a case that universities are fucking unprofessional pieces of shit that promote violence. This means that they are probably unprofessional for other reasons too. I make no apologies for what you call my bias, because universities have trained me very well to hate them. Universities have tried their hardest to convince me that they are unprofessional sacks of shit. And I can also think of many things that universities can do to regain my trust, but universities will do none of them, so their degrees are worthless.

Success is a popularity/asskissing contest. To be liked by people, you have to kiss ass and become a complete and total dipshit. But I will get back at them a different way. I know how to prevent human extinction, and I will get back at them by doing fucking nothing about it. Humans will therefore go extinct, and I will laugh at everyone for being so fucked up.

What about your bias? What is your degree in? Tell me. Are you asskissing the universities? Because if you don't tell me your degree, I will just think you are a hateful asskisser and a piece of shit as well.

Regards,

-Joseph Van Name Ph.D.

P.S. Universities refuse to apologize to me or state that they acknowledge any wrongdoing. I do not need to travel everywhere to realize that there is a problem since all universities and graduates are guilty of being morons by association. This means that universities are stupid ass pieces of shit and the graduates from these institutions are morons. I will call any person with just a B.S. degree from a university a stupid fucking moron to his face. And if you don't tell me your degree, I will consider you a stupid ass piece of shit as well. People hate me for stating my opinion which just tells me that I am right and everyone else is fucking stupid and evil.

I do know all universities because none of them have condemned the violence. THEY HAVE INSTEAD FUCKING GASLIT ME RELENTLESSLY FOR BRINGING UP THE ISSUE. FUCK THEM! EVERYONE AT THOSE INSTITUTIONS WILL GO TO HELL AND BE ABUSED BY THE DEMONS FOR ALL ETERNITY!

THE ENTIRE CRYPTOCURRENCY COMMUNITY IS TOO FUCKING STUPID TO REALIZE THAT BITCOIN HAS A MINING ALGORITHM THAT WAS NEVER DESIGNED TO ADVANCE SCIENCE, SO HAVE NO PROBLEM CALLING PEOPLE STUPID FUCKING IDIOTS!

getting back to the topic

the solution to the gov demands and the university is this:
if any private or federal donations come with clauses.. and those clauses are not agreeable to the university.. then the university should not take the money, or if they already have taken it, they should refund the money

the university is not poor, so trying to take the fed to court saying removing the grants will harm the research and stuff.. just is a bad argument to make
the university if it wants to stick to its own political/social leaning agenda. should just decline donations that come with terms..

simply stop taking fed money.. end of

the fed could then just offer its own efficient scholarship scheme by sending funds down to the state level to evaluate students applications for scholarships

Then stop comming to Universities to have an educated workforce that makes the country competitive and creates research that makes the US military better, the IT arguably best in the world and keep making humanity progress.

The money Unis get is not a free lunch, they deliver plenty of positive externalities, including "exporting" services all over the world and helping the US with trade. It is mostly the money best spent.

As long as universities fail to acknowledge that they have a problem with promoting violence, we should regard these institutions as places that make people fucking stupid. Most degrees are bullshit anyways. THERE IS NO FUCKING EXCUSE FOR THE HORRENDOUS BEHAVIOR OF THESE INSTITUTIONS!

Not a bad argument. In fact it is not an argument, it is quite factual. There are hundreds of patents filled by US universities every year and it is silly to think that is going to keep happening cutting funds.

Well, they have been there for many decades, the bigger ones have large ex-allumni comunities and the fact that Trump is using federal money to further his ideological agenda would have been a scandal in any othe administration, but.. everything goes. Well, everything except the approval rating for Trump.

It looks like universities cannot make enough patents to make a profit, so they need the government to help them. Unfortunately, universities also promote violence, so they are really good at making lots of enemies because they are that fucked up. I would not mind universities for doing research that does not have immediate practical applications at all, but universities are filled with fucking assholes, so I do mind. Universities are also training graduates who are too fucking stupid to understand that BITCOIN DOES NOT EVEN HAVE A MINING ALGORITHM THAT WAS DESIGNED TO ADVANCE SCIENCE!

Unis do not need to make a direct profit in my view, they produce both research and good professionals (at least educated) that later will pay more taxes and create more value for the country. If you take a look at countries that are struggling economically, they tend to lack on a proper superior education systems and the elites only travel abroad to get educated. You only value stuff when you loose it.

However, some of those patents became of military use, and AFAIK the unis cannot really market them - they would make a lot if they could.

Universities are not producing good professionals nor are they producing very many educated people because they are promoting violence and they refuse to acknowledge that they have a problem. Since universities promote violence, I have no choice but to regard most people who graduate from these fucked up institutions as fucked up pieces of shit and stupid ass morons. The solution is for either universities to get their acts together (there is little hope for this) or for people to produce institutions that are better than universities.

P.S. You seem to hate me because I have a Ph.D. in Mathematics. Why the fuck are you trying to defend universities while hating me for getting educated at a university? Are you that fucking insane? Oh. You are probably just incredibly bloodthirsty. You see that I have been threatened with violence, so you side with the evil because you are evil.

First of all, I do not hate you. I mostly feel indeference about you because I do not know you. A Ph D. in Maths would place you in the mid-ranking tiers of the people I speak with usually (voluntarily I mean) and most likely in the lower tier of income.

Now, Universities produce a range of professionals because there is a range of universities out there. But those that systematically produce graduates that have starting salaries above 100k USD plus bonus are obviously delivering something that the society is willing to pay for.
