Use & necessity for Bitcoin “₿” symbol for keyboards & other devices

The conventional keyboard design does not change often, it will not be easy to get a new shortcut into the keyboard for a currency that is not legal tender

BTC works fine at the moment, and no one really confuses it with any other abbreviation.

On my Samsung phone, I can add a symbol "₿" Bitcoin on the Samsung keyboard. If you are using the same device, try to enable the smart typing and the key symbol under "text shortcuts" It might be different on other Samsung models, but look for "personal dictionary" just in case you can't find the "text shortcuts" and then add and rename it BTC or Bitcoin for expanded phrase, put "₿".

Once you've done that, just type "BTC" or "Bitcoin," and it will suggest the symbol "₿". That's my setup on my Samsung keyboard.

It will be a long time before there is a widely adopted keyboard format that has the ₿ symbol. This is a cool small business idea though, someone should build it, as I'm sure many here would buy it

I only tend to use the Bitcoin symbol on very rare occasions. Perhaps if there were a dedicated keyboard button for it, I would use it more often. On Apple devices, there is a text replacement feature, so I have set up “btc1” to automatically change to ₿.

Many other currencies from different parts of the world are not included in the keyboard as well. We can only adjust it digitally but in physical keyboard, it is not mostly included. I do not think it is necessary but I am not ruling out the possibility of it being added.

I don't know if we have the same settings appearance, but you should be able to find the keyboard settings under General Management > Language and Inputs > On-Screen Keyboard > Samsung Keyboard. After that, look for Smart Typing > Enable Predictive Text > Look for Text Shortcuts > Tap the + sign on the top-right > Rename it (you could use BTC) and put the expanded phrase with "₿".

After you're done, you can use the "BTC" keyword when typing and it will show the symbol "₿" under predictive text.

That's true. In every device that I own, only the dollar sign is printed on a button. It's not a huge deal for me tbh, especially if we can modify what the button actually do and assign it to another symbol easily. Not even sure if there are enough demands for a dedicated button for my national currency.

I don't know if the symbol BTC has already been in place even before the introduction of bitcoin or came in after bitcoin was introduced, but i want to believe that this same sign has been a symbol commonly recognized for bitcoin and that alone, despite there could be different interpretation to what BTC means, we only recognizes the BTC symbol as for being a representation of bitcoin than any other meaning.

I wonder how much it will cost, though. If it's as expensive as a custom keyboard, I don't think I'll have the budget for that. Not to mention, most of the time I type on my Mac. I guess it can be an interesting collection.

I would guess that it wouldn't cost too much more to manufacture than a normal keyboard, so it shouldn't cost too much more than a retail keyboard (maybe a bit more for a small business than a mass produced keyboard, and if the provider isn't profiteering from the idea).
