 Na one stranger come to my friend POS shop, say him need airtime, so him no con get the airtime, then the guy tell am say if possible make him send am through his pos then him say okay, him charge am 100naira for each airtime he bought of 1thousand on his two Sims, then the stranger requested for receipt, him send am the receipt.
 For my friend side him do business, but na business do am, so after 1 to 2 hours him just start to dea receive debit alert of 1k 1k many, till the extent his account started showing -minus 30k and he told me he was having a balance of 74thousand, please make we de extra careful scammers too much them de everywhere.

Op good morning, I believe this is not the first time am seeing this thread, "pos scam related topics " I have seen it multiple times, is not that am trying to say you are not making sense but let's try and come up with something new and innovating at least to share new ideas and information among our self.

 Haven't said that, thanks a lot for that information because we are no longer finding it funny any more the way in which fraudulent activities is on a high rate this  days, scammers are  coming up with differs means and ideas and once you are ignorant of them you become a victim. So I urge everyone of us to be vigilant and extremely careful on our day to day financial transactions so that we wouldn't start hearing stories that touched.

The story is unclear, are saying that the person for to hack into the POS machine without touching it? Because for that to happen it means that your friend must have given him the POS machine to input his phone number to transfer the airtime, in the process of doing that perhaps he must have done something. Pos scam Is getting very common in Nigeria, people that are running this business should be more vigilant. This isn't that first post made about POS scams and each one has a unique story behind it. Few days ago someone was trying to defraud someone that has a POS business close to where I live, this is a wake up call to everyone

How is it even possible because what the whole thing is trying to implies is that it was through the receipt they got to his account, is somehow too impossible to believe because I no that a lot of people has been doing POS and after they have finished withdrawing, the pos person usually give them there payment receipt so if this was true how come similar scamming is not common because a lot of people usually go home with theirs, I believe that the guy who wanted the airtime could have implanted something on the POS machine when he had access to it.

Inasmuch as there could be such an event, the storyline doesn't seem to be clear to say. There have been a lot of POS scams, and there was a time I wanted to use a POS machine for a withdrawal. When I went to the lady for the transaction, I met her crying, and she told me she had just lost money to a scammer who was driving by.

You see, most of these issues are from the POS agents, but it is good that sometimes they are very careful with their POS machine and transaction, not everybody you give your POS to do transactions themselves. Even when they want to input their password, watch them and observe their activities so you could have clues what they are trying to do because the aftermath of their actions would have dire consequences on your business.

I think any POS scam that occurs is as a result of the carelessness of the POS vendor, because if the vendor is very vigilant, they would not be a victim of a POS scam.

Na the first time wey me too go hear this kind of story about scammers, but nothing wey scammers no fit do just to make sure say them succeed in scamming people, even POS no safe for this country, although them dey scam POS even before but this one wey person just come buy airtime and them give am receipt and later things Dey sup Dey very surprise, POS  must give customers receipt for evidence and proof for letting them know that they withdraw from their place and the amount wey them withdraw in case something come later sup.

That person wey Dey do POS should reason waiting cause that thing wey Dey make him Dey receive debit alert from him account, some POS people too Dey lose guard sometimes because I know some POS people wey sabi some dirty work if people come withdraw from them and later the thing Dey affect them, I no accuse anybody oh, I just Dey talk base on my own experience and waiting I don see with some POS people.

I follow confuse for the story and bin dey wait for something more related to wetin or how these scammers dey operate but no find any. Na the obvious reason wey go make the guy want that amount of #100 airtime because em know say e nor go get the password once, so when the POS vendor dey try am, em go take note of am. But the receipt aspect sha still nor clear, because na means of confirmation say the transaction dey successful.

POS scam is real, but this story looks confusing, because it is somehow hard to hack through a POS machine using a receipt. So, there must be a mix-up somewhere. That is why it is always encouraged that, when you are going into a business, you have to be very vigilant, especially in Nigeria, where scammers are everywhere.

Still, in most cases, the victims are to be blamed. Most of them are not that vigilant in their business, while a person who comes to cheat you will be very clever and know all your weak points before they strike. So, it is not that easy, but still, you did well by sharing your experience.

This is unfinished story Op. Please engage with your friend and come back to update this thread so others can learn the appropriate way to avoid being scam using the same strategy. What transpired between both of them in the process of transaction? Did your friend handover the POS machine to the customer to input his phone number or he did everything from his end?

As it stands now, with the uncompleted story we have here, it's impossible to know where the problem come from. Is it from issuing the receipt? I don't think so because there's no sensitive information contains in the receipt. It only contains the transaction details which is not enough to get access to someone account. Is it by sending airtime? This as well doesn't put your account at risk of being hacked. So where exactly did everything went wrong?

Perhaps, it was a network glitch from your friend terminal provider that led to multiple repeated transactions. Otherwise, your friend mistakenly click on repeat transaction in the process. Most banks and wallets have that feature that allows you to set a specific transaction on repeat and you don't need to approve it again, it'll execute automatically when it's due time.

However, I don't understand why it'll continue repeating the transaction until the account enter a negative balance. Assuming it was a repeated transaction as I assumed, it will notify you when the balance is low that it can not execute your next repeating transaction due to low balance. In fact, even if it happens to be a scam as everyone thinks, they can not scam you above your available balance unless they use overdraft or loan. I don't really know how to make it look sense but the fact that your friend account ran into a minus balance simply means it's not a scam but rather a network glitch.

Advise your friend to check his transaction history to see details of the strange transaction. Please don't abandon this thread, update us with your findings and outcome to avoid causing unnecessary fear in the minds of people running POS business.

Until further update from Op prove me wrong, I will not agree this is a scam.

Omo this story no really clear, because mere sending airtime to a number through POS machine cannot automatically lead to the owner of the POS losing his money just like that, there might be something that must triggered such deductions from the POS machine, and at what point did he know that it was the guy he helped to recharge his line that might have defrauded him, that's just speculation. So you want to tell me that, it was from the receipt that the POS guy sent, that the fraudster used, Omo this thing no really clear.

Omo, this is really very serious oh my friend. Because to be frankly speaking, I think this is actually my first time of hearing about this airtime P.O.S related scam, which is quite scary. Because up till now, I'm still trying to figure out how were they able to convert an ordinary phone number that was called to you physically into a scamming device by mere inputting the number on the airtime dashboard. Omoh, e means say one gat dey careful now oh especially people wey dey run POS business, new strategise everyday  but anyways, we dey online dey see wetin dey sub, so we go wise up.
This one strange aswear, but sometimes I dey wonder how dem dey carry get those plenty  tricks wey dem dey use, e just show how crime rate in the country dey on the increase.

This thing wey you dey talk na true because I don see people dey drop withdraw slip anyhow but I never hear say one dey say them hack person account through this slip,I think op is trying to iron Something maybe him no know how to present am to us, because if you say this one na new tricks of scamming I go still doubt you because me never hear about such scamming strategy before.
