I believe that sanctions, tariffs and similar things were more feared in the past years. I remember how people were talking that the USA can dive any country with economic sanctions because it's the most powerful country in the world but recent times showed us that sanctions don't do much, it's very easy to bypass them.
Bro, let's take it one after the other.

The US is a very powerful country, but when it comes to tariffs, the effect is almost mutual.
It depends on the country. If the US threatens a small country, then the effect is not mutual but if the US threatens a country like China, then the effect is mutual.

Also, a tariff targeted against a country will be more fearful to the country than a tariff that is tyrannically being targeted at virtually all countries of the world (like Trump's). This looks like a joke, and in the end, it is a shared burden that causes countries to look for alternatives. Even at that, many countries would rethink their relationship with the US and realign with the others by reshaping their dependence on the US as much as possible, and we've seen it in many countries now.

This brought me to the last point. Regardless of the position of power the US think it occupies in a trade war, no country has the monopoly of tariff weaponisation, the effect bites both countries, whether in money realised or in scarcity that it would cause in their country, thereby increasing inflation and bringing about other unpleasant chain effects.
I agree with you, no country is powerful enough to solely weaponise tariffs. Btw I believe that this tariff war will affect the US more than any other country because it shows that the US is a bully and one to one, bully wins but when bully tries to bully everyone in the room, then the bullied ones unite against the bully and finally, the bully gets bullied.

This is a fitting punishment for the Americans because Trump is responsible for weakening his own country economically. The more tariffs Trump imposes on other countries, the more his own country will face threats.

The more tariffs it imposes, the less country will want to have a long-term relationship and partnership with the US. They'll slowly try to get rid of it because no one likes bullies. Everyone loves someone strong and kind but no one loves someone strong and bully.

It depends on the country. If the US threatens a small country, then the effect is not mutual but if the US threatens a country like China, then the effect is mutual.
I don't think you carefully weigh the economics of tariffs, it is not as you viewed it. Like I said in my previous post, tariffs and sanctions are not the same thing, even as Trump viewed the current tariff war as a weapon being wielded by the US. Contrary to your claim, no matter how small the country is, its relationships and dependence on the US are the crucial factors here. If it is little or nothing, then the US tariff is futile.

In other words, don't look at it from the size of the country and their economy, but from its trade relations with the US. And it mustn't be the US, there are alternatives.

Trump can try to do whatever he wants, even if he manages to make things a lot worse than we are going to end up with a lot better result eventually. What we are going to see is whoever comes next, even if a republican does (which I doubt) then we are going to see USA backtrack in almost all of these.

Trump is done, this was his last term and we are going to end up not seeing him anymore, there is just limited time of him being here. Afterwards, republican or democrat, nobody will want to be enemies of the world this much and they will end up with a better result, remove tariffs this high, and many other stuff. Dude is crazy for doing all of these, even his advisors and his fellow republicans are saying it's getting to a risky point.

It is Trump who is anti-American. Citizens are facing an increase in the price of goods because of this tariff war. BRICS will continue to expand because more countries have begun to feel the impact of Trump's imperialism.
It is true to some extent that Trump is anti-American because no country will try to partner with him for his undesirable actions.
He is currently being talked about the most for imposing tariffs and, as far as I know, the long-term relationship with them may not be sustainable. By now, everyone may have noticed that the president is imposing various tariffs on different countries to reduce the trade deficit.

However at present it seems that the world's two largest economies are now looking to make a deal, meaning the United States and China will negotiate to reduce tariffs as quickly as possible perhaps economic officials from these two countries will hold talks in the Swedish capital so it has to be said that will the financial markets become more vocal now?

US-China set to meet with extension of tariff pause on the cards

US-China set to meet with extension of tariff pause on the cards
Trump thought he could arm-twist China and force it to do the US's bidding. The series of tariffs the US government placed on Chinese goods was leading to an increase in the price of goods. Trump knew that he would face protests in the US that might lead to unrest. Now he wants to make a deal with China by all means.

There are indications that both countries might extend the tariff pause for another 90days as negotiations continue.

The president of my country was at the 17th BRICS summit in Brazil, my country became the 9th partner country of BRICS earlier this year (January), so i guess we are one the countries that would be charged an additional 10% tariff, so maybe a total of 110%, lol. Trump is a big bully, he might think that he is strengthening the American cause globally, but his antics would only push further nations to move towards the Anti-American policies as he calls it and thereby weakening their position.
True And already we have started seeing the effects of this from the African market as Africa countries has started to move away from America and shifted towards China and Brics obviously trump is not too fully aware of what he is doing because the effects of what he is doing will even far out live his tenure as president because when all these nations will boycott the United States of America in terms of trade it will not be a good one for the united states economy.

I think that trump actions are actually fueling Brics to be stronger by the day and this spells dum for America because as days go bye more countries are moving away from using the dollar and with the sensitive nature of the world right now where the world now is segmented this tariffs is one way that America has used to shoot herself in the foot

BRICS can do much more than current status, but sadly it's not easy for many countries specially African because they are fighting hard and its surely giving them some chance of bringing themselves on their own which could be historic achievement for them and this continent.
Firstly they needed to be ended their personal issues with these things could be works much better than surely they needed BRICS for help with level instead of going like they were doing under European and American influence this will give them better chance of development.
Currently, BRICS doing good and have chance of stand against few things like the USA tariff which is bullying policy of Donald Trump for many countries if they are able to have good confidence and currency then surely things will be works much better for them in the future.

After the 17th BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro, there is no chance to call BRICS an ordinary bloc anymore because it is now clear that it has become a major competitor of America. Since BRICS represents 56% of the people, it may not have been difficult for Trump to understand that it is a large part of the world GDP. Trump's erratic behavior and instability are completely exposing the issue of his fear.

Certainly, a tariff weapon created by Trump, with which he sometimes pronounces 100% or sometimes 110%, this tariff weapon is going to have a negative impact on the country itself. Especially if the BRICS countries now reach an agreement among themselves and turn around trade, then only will Trump realize that his weapon, which was aimed at others, has turned against him. American importers will buy goods at higher prices to meet the needs of their consumers, which will increase the cost of money for America. When the US and China engaged in a trade war in 2018 and 2019, we saw that American agriculture and manufacturing suffered the most they should not forget this so quickly.

It is clear that this war is not about any one politician, but rather a struggle to change the position of all the centers of economic and political power at the present time. It is almost certain that there will be changes in all areas of American leadership. That is how the BRICS is moving forward. What America has long wanted to maintain, but Trump is doing it with his own hands.

I think Donald Trump is over whelmed and it is obvious he's seriously confuse as he doesn't know the next steps of action to take that will be effective in deterring more nations from joining the BRIC bloc. Recently he was threatening to sanctions India companies with additional tariffs increase if Indian continues to buy Iranian oil, that's insane. What the US doesn't understand is that India companies can simply boycott US sanctions by strengthening trades with China, Iran and other BRICS partners while the US economy will continue to loose billions of dollars at her own expense. Donald Trump madness has costs the US so much money, the US is gradually loosing her influence and dominance in most regions while strong trade partners have continued to turn over to China for trade deals. The tariffs hike that was meant to be a weapon for the US is now destroying the US economy Grin

After the 17th BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro, there is no chance to call BRICS an ordinary bloc anymore because it is now clear that it has become a major competitor of America.

BRICS has never wanted to compete or challenge the US, NATO or the G7. Their goal was simply to create an economic and political union between member nations, and create a freer and more just world. Instead of depending on just one country and one organization, making the world more and more unfair and unbalanced when benefits belong to only one group.

If the US and EU do not abuse their power and bully other countries for their own interests. They maintain peace and balance in the world, I believe BRICS will never exist. Therefore, it cannot be said that BRICS was established to compete and become an opponent of the United States or NATO, but BRICS is the inevitable result of their abuse of power.

Trump's 50% sanction on India is for buying Russian oil and not from Iran.

This move from the US will affect its domestic economy. Due to the continuous tariff spat between China and the US, most American industries moved to India because it also has low labour costs. With this new tariff US businesses that rely on imports from India will have to seek alternatives which will cost them.

Some BRICS nations are still highly dependent on trade with the US. Others are highly indebted to the IMF and the World Bank which might affect their decision to switch alliance. But the good thing about BRICS is that it is a good alternative.

Among the USs' trading partners, China is the largest export partner, accounting for 17% of total US imports. That means they depend a lot on China, and this is considered interdependence, not one-way as many people misunderstand. In addition, China is the most important partner in the supply chain of manufacturing, processing and assembling goods for the US. Or the US is heavily dependent on China for rare earths, as they hold more than 80% of the global supply. So they think that bullying China will be easy is just Trump's illusion.

For clarity, it should be added that pooya87 engages in anti-Western propaganda, which is why he consistently distorts reality to some extent (sometimes even significantly), promoting anti-Western, pro-Iranian narratives.

The irony is that BRICS actually has a decent chance of development as an economic union, albeit with a political tint;
however:
1. Modern totalitarian and aggressive Iran will never be accepted there — it will remain a proxy of China.
2. There will always be significant economic imbalances within BRICS favoring the leading countries, which primarily use BRICS to achieve political rather than economic goals.

For pooya87, BRICS is just a pretext to convince everyone of the West’s failure and imminent collapse; he does not take BRICS seriously as an economic alliance.

Besides, BRICS will force the lazy ass of the West to start moving its butt — that is, to finally get serious about reforms, development, and political action.

BRICS was created precisely to compete with the West — and I see nothing wrong with competition; in fact, it can be quite healthy. However, one important (and not so small) nuance is that the reasons behind BRICS’s creation were primarily political.

For clarity, it should be added that pooya87 engages in anti-Western propaganda, which is why he consistently distorts reality to some extent (sometimes even significantly), promoting anti-Western, pro-Iranian narratives.

The irony is that BRICS actually has a decent chance of development as an economic union, albeit with a political tint;
however:

I have to be agreed with your few points because BRICS creating is mostly politically, but there are still few things which needed to be added if they want to have better results lack of confidence between members and their few points which also needed to be strong.

They can't take single decisions on big platforms which can give them more strength and depth because if they will stand with unity this could be brought more success to them recently tariff is creating chaos here they also needed to take few decisions which are not easy but can help them.

Russia facing sanctions which are also needed to be removed if they can't go ahead with this surely this is also setback for them here things can take favourable changes for them Iran is also needed good support from them because this can also bring good strength to this BRICS.

Here few big countries like China, Russia, India and Brazil can take few decisions which will surely help them for having political and economic success at big level.

Trump thought he could arm-twist China and force it to do the US's bidding. The series of tariffs the US government placed on Chinese goods was leading to an increase in the price of goods. Trump knew that he would face protests in the US that might lead to unrest. Now he wants to make a deal with China by all means.

There are indications that both countries might extend the tariff pause for another 90days as negotiations continue.
These trump tariffs serves two purposes, which is displaying resentments against countries aligning with Russia and China and secondly romancing those major exporters of those countries to have more friendly relationship with America by opening an option to come and establish their production bases in America at no cost. It is clear that he uses the second side of the blade to lure major exporters of those countries to US and exert some control over them an furthermore and use their industrial action to boost US economy at the expense of the countries slammed with huge tariffs just like contained in their recent letter to Brasil which they slammed 50% tariff .

I agree, however, I would like to see BRICS as healthy economic competitors to the West, not as aggressors who achieve their goals at any cost.

In any case, I’m not rooting for them right now.

If Russia wants sanctions lifted, it can simply end the war and withdraw its troops.
Or, they can pursue “success” by destroying neighboring countries and looting their resources.
I doubt that India and Brazil would go along with that — it goes against their ethics and morals (or at least I’d like to believe so).
