Hey my people, since we dont have technical board for this kind of discussion here on our local board, i decided to create a thread for such discussions, since technical know-how helps in increasing our security and  guides our internet devices activities that keeps is off the rader, of either hacker's and kidnappers tracking our mobile devices like IPhone and Android devices.

Why The Need For This thread:

1: With recent cases of crypto holders being victims of kidnappers and thefts there is need to keeps our devices off track.

2: As bitcoinnairs we have love and value for our privacy, that existing in privacy no traces even though we cant achieve that 100% but at least we keep trying our best.

For the above mentioned reasons let me kick off with this interesting feature that increases your privacy on your mobile device.

Note: this option will have it own risk like, not being able to track the devices if stolen or lost but for someone that have privacy in mind dont you think having such option in your cryptocurrency devices at least not your main devices will increase your privacy?

Perhaps the developer options in the android devices that I have known for long has nothing to do with security towards your cryptocurrency protection, it only helps you customize your device to a level that you desire, especially device performance. We can as well say that it helps protect or debug usb related attacks. But however for android or iPhone devices it rarely have such attacks.

Hence one of the most common ways of protecting your hot wallets on any devices (devices that you use frequently for online activities) is manually checking for application updates and updating your devices to the latest version. It helps you fill up the gaps that hackers have discovered in the previous versions.

Just as the name implies it's a feature for developers and it's because the regular android has boundaries and for those developers that mostly beta test, they will be limited with those regular restrictions and turning it on means lifting some restrictions (including those protecting you) and taking full responsibility for any damage it may accompany.

If you really want to stay off track developer options won't cut it. You'll need to root your device and preferably an older android device something of around version 4.4 .

I don't think there is any need to utilize the feature of the developer option because it's mostly about not being able to be traced through your device, but it doesn't protect your device from hacks or attacks if you click on malicious links that are vulnerable and i think that people that makes use of these developers option in devices are mostly fraud stars that does illegal shits online and tries to abscond being tracked by the government. If you are doing legit works on the internet, then i see no need for the developer's option.

Mate what you explain is clone function, is different from what i posted, that feature you talk about is phone cloning is quite different from the developers function that gives you more privacy control if you switched to that option.

Great input there i like the fact that you mentioned the risk associated with developers option and gow you become responsible for your security, quite alright it going to limit your traces even if not totally eliminating them.

Even developer options has its limitations but when you root your device your are automatically in full control and you can tweak anything software related on that device without issues but the risk is too high especially if you don't have sufficient technical knowledge. With rooted devices you can totally change your location (without VPNs) mod your IP and many other things.

The reason it's even possible is because android is fully open source unlike the iOS and macOS.

Well, for debugging  and enabling some presetted settings & features that might not be available  for average users then it okay but just as it name suggests developers  option, it's  meant for developers.. there're  some changes that could increase vuneralbility though but not as vulnerable to possible attacks when rooted and run by an average  user..
So it's  better not messing  around with it if you  don't  have anything to  do with it .
I use it to keep track of my CPU Load  anyway..

Even with activating developer mode, the user is still vulnerable to tracking as long he/she is connected to a particular internet network provider, or a deep search location application. Developer mode is for developers, more than 95% of mobile users don't use the function.

For advanced investors with technical knowledge use hardware wallet, anyone you feel compatible using, for investors with average knowledge about wallet security can use open source wallets issuing a good setup, keep the wallet offline and keep the phrases intact, somewhere out of reach and not prone to natural disasters.

For tracking, don't you think we should turned off our location identifier this would help you to reduce the rate at which someone are being monitored. Another thing is that people keeps putting all their lives savings in a particular storage or places to reserved those seedphrase. I have never enabled the developer option on phone and rather I do enable it on my PC especially when there are new things explore on the web.

What has privacy got to do with our mobile device not being traceable as bitcoin investors and traders? As bitcoin investors I thought the only privacy we only need it make sure we protect our wallet from being hacked. By making sure our private keys and seed phrases are only known and accessible by us alone. To me this settings has nothing to do with bitcoin privacy. It is more of people who are hiding from something or people who don't want to be tracked for reasons best known to them. I don't see how it adds any privacy to bitcoin investors.

There is a lot that can be done with this option in the phone but most of the emphasis is on security and privacy which is not bad. I have that configured in my phone to avoid the harvesting of my personal data by the big techs but like you said, it has its disadvantages as well. Regarding Bitcoin, there is little this can do especially in Nigeria because if criminals can exploit that, they will use that skill to aim for something bigger and not little fries like us. Nevertheless, it is still important to take precautions to avoid "had I know".

I guess I’ve been missing something all these while and for a country like ours where the security agencies(police) is a no friend to a crypto holder, then the second space feature should be a way out for the common man.
I am curious to know if these feature also works for IOS devices and other android devices that were not mentioned in your post?

At first hearing from all that you have pointed out was not off, but the topic was kind of not connected to what was expected. Well, all that aside, if I could understand what you were trying to say, I think discussing device security and its relation to protecting your cryptocurrency, just as you have mentioned, I think the developer option can only help to customise a device's performance and debug issues. I don't see how they are directly related to cryptocurrency security. Keeping a device and application up to date is crucial for security measures, as updates often patch vulnerabilities that hackers can exploit.

What if the person is kidnapped and only phone can be used to trace the person? Although, it is possible that the kidnappers will know and throw his phone somehow far away from where they took him.

Also it is worth knowing that it may be untraceable to the government but it is traceable by malware. And if the person make a mistake, it might cost him his coins.

Kidnappers can easily trace someone offline. Privacy is better.

Nice one of you though but in the case of enhancing our wallet security and privacy levels instead of this concept na to better use the hardware wallets with em high security peripherals. Other gadgets like our mobile or electronics devices fit get contaminated by the malicious softwares and the threats all over there for internet.

I agree with you on this and i also have a deep thought on the dangers that is associated with getting your phone upgraded to developers option such as you mentioned, i think those that mostly use that feature are the bad actors who want to hide u der the radar of the government, this is somewhat a strong risk for an ordinary user who dont have anything to hide, i use to test this feature on my other none usable device just to see how this feature function.

While having that option on my apps use to send me a warning of the vulnerability of my device, so a guess there is risk of malware attacks on the device if is on developers mode

I don't think turning it on have anything to do with tracking and privacy. if you want privacy, depending on what aspect of privacy though, all you need is taking care of how you connect to the outer world(most especially  internet) .

when it comes to tracking, you can only make it hard to do  by getting  a burner phone and sim  to make calls and contact people [you could use it to get privacy too, burner laptops  are no exception  ] but that depends on who you're contacting as it could give up a tip and depending on timing , your location can still be traced..There's  just alot about it  but as long you're not running from something/someone you shouldn't  worry about it that much just take the normal measures yo achieving privacy and you will be fine.
