Nigeria become one if the BRICS partner members in January of this year. Some weeks close to BRICS meet, Trump administration want to ban more countries after banning 12 countries. Among the 12 countries are 12 Africa countries.
You can see it yourself here:
https://www.cfr.org/article/guide-countries-trumps-2025-travel-ban-listThey wanted to ban 36 more countries, most from Africa and most from West Africa.
The countries that could face a full or a partial ban if they do not address these concerns within the next 60 days are: Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Bhutan, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cote D'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Dominica, Ethiopia, Egypt, Gabon, The Gambia, Ghana, Kyrgyzstan, Liberia, Malawi, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, South Sudan, Syria, Tanzania, Tonga, Tuvalu, Uganda, Vanuatu, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Nigeria foreign minister threatened that they will not export rare earth minerals and other minerals they are exporting to United State if they ban Nigeria. The foreign minister even said they will meet with other West Africa countries. Which means United States should not expect export of rare earth and other minerals from West Africa countries that are exporting to United States.
BRICS summit was just few days away when Trump planned all these. Trump see countries that are BRICS members or partners to be anti-USA. If you have been following what he is saying, you will understand. But this is more about Nigeria, let us leave others.
Tinubu went to BRICS summit in Brazil which was some days ago.
Tinubu arrives Brazil for BRICS Summit and this is what we saw probably as United States response:

UPDATED: US reduces visa validity for most Nigerian applicants, gives reasonUnited States reduced our Visa validity from 2 to 5 years to 3 months.
The US government has announced that most Nigerians applying for non-immigrant visas will now only get single-entry three-month visas.
The US used to issue a two-year visa validity with multiple entries to many Nigerians before this new policy. Many others got a five-year visa with multiple entries.
Is there something I am not getting right?
So is this true for Nigeria? However, in a statement issued on Tuesday, the embassy described the new policy as part of its global visa reciprocity process, which addresses the treatment American citizens receive in other countries.
