At first, we just added BTCitcoin quotes to the envelopes, something to catch the eye and maybe start a conversation.

But then we figured, why not add a QR code too?

Now when someone scans it, they might end up learning more about BTCitcoin, or even get curious enough to go deeper.

Small change, but it makes a difference.

I’ve made this project open source, and I’d really like to have it verified by the community.
What’s the best way to get people here to look into it and point out if something isn’t good or doesn’t look right?

I made a quick video to explain how the generator works
Watch the demo on X

Not everyone knows what hongbao (red envelopes) are, and combining them with BTCitcoin paper wallets can be confusing at first.

To make things clearer, we put together an Academy page that explains the idea and how it works:
https://academy.hongbaob.tc/

Would appreciate your feedback on whether this helps newcomers understand the concept.

Transparent Pricing

I’ve seen comments asking why our envelopes are more expensive than ones you can find on Amazon or AliExpress.
To make it clear, here’s a simple comparison and breakdown of what you’re actually paying for with Hong₿ao.

The Price Comparison

Hong₿ao MiniAliExpressBinance
Image
Price€29 for 6 envelopes€2 for 6From €10 + fees
TypeBitcoin red envelope + Paper WalletTraditional red envelopeDigital gift card
Self-Custody✅ Public + private keysN/A❌ Binance holds
KYC✅ No✅ No❌ Yes
Education✅ QR tutorials + Quote❌ None❌ Exchange-focused
Expiration✅ NeverN/A❌ 180 days

At first glance, €29 for 6 envelopes might look expensive compared to €2 generics. But Hong₿ao offers true Bitcoin ownership and education, not just decoration, and not an exchange IOU.

Where Does Your Money Go?
• Printing & premium materials
• Storage & handling
• Free worldwide shipping
• Marketing & Bitcoin adoption
• AI credits for custom paper wallets
• Ongoing development & education
• Taxes & payment fees
• Small margin to keep the lights on

We’re a small independent team of 4 Bitcoiners, no VC, no big backers. Every order helps us keep building and improving.

The Bottom Line
Yes, you can buy cheaper envelopes. You can even print your own wallets.
But Hong₿ao is more than paper, it’s:
  • A real Bitcoin paper wallet
  • Educational (QR guides + quotes)
  • Customizable with AI/artist designs
  • A meaningful gift that helps orange pill friends & family

Hey BitcoinTalk community! Sharing this week's progress on our open-source Bitcoin paper wallet generator designed for traditional red envelopes.

Major Updates:

  • Artist Partnership: Collaborated with thegreatpaint on podcast and secured agreement to use his dollar paper design as temporary note while he creates custom artwork specifically for hongbao_bitcoin.
  • Featured Notes Section: Added new "Featured" tab to showcase all designer custom notes, making it easier for users to discover unique designs.
  • New Designer Onboard: Added custom note from Twitter-based designer, expanding our artist network.
  • Bug Fixes: Addressed multiple issues throughout the week improving overall platform stability.
  • Customer Satisfaction: Had a customer reorder (still processing - thanks for patience!) showing real demand for physical Bitcoin gifting solutions.
  • Funding: Received new contribution via geyser.fund to support continued development.

Technical Details:
- Built with Ruby on Rails 8
- Offline key generation using bitcoinjs-lib
- AI-powered custom portrait integration
- Mt Pelerin fiat top-up integration

Repository: https://github.com/sbounmy/hongbao_bitcoin

The project bridges traditional Asian gift-giving culture with Bitcoin adoption. Perfect for introducing family to Bitcoin through familiar cultural practices.

Thoughts on Bitcoin paper wallets for gifting? Any artists in the community interested in contributing designs?

Hong₿ao now has a Featured Notes section, a showcase of unique Bitcoin paper wallet designs made by the community.

We already have some great ones live (like the “Satoshi Euro” and “Pizza Day ₿ill”), but what we’re really looking for is more designers to contribute original Bitcoin notes.

If you’re into art, design, or Bitcoin culture, this is your chance to create something that will be gifted, collected, and remembered.

When scanning the QR code on the envelope, the user would be redirected to a learning page What would be better?
  • 1. A video explaining all
  • 2. What we have now?

I just came here from your other thread, and the Price triggered me slightly. I understand you provide a better product than Binance and the one available on Aliexpress. However, you should keep the price more reasonable than the other options. Your product is still new, and you should consider that. Let people try your product first and then come back to you.

People usually want the cheaper options. But since you provide a better product, you can charge more. Also, remember that your product is new, and you have yet to earn trust and a reputation. The internet business depends on reputation. You can increase the price later once you become popular and more trustworthy. You shouldn't look for profit at the beginning; focus on competition and getting clients first. Just my two sats!

I’ve been experimenting with Bitcoin-themed designs and created my own note for the upcoming Lunar New Year.
