Which market gives the best value ... Point Spread, Moneyline, or Totals?

I’ve been thinking about this lately: among the main betting markets - point spread, moneyline, and totals (over/under), which one actually gives the best value if you’re trying to bet more consistently rather than just for fun?

Some say moneyline is the safest since you only pick the winner, but the odds are usually too low to make real profit. Others prefer spreads, claiming it’s more skill-based and you can find hidden value when the line doesn’t match the real game strength. Then there’s the totals market, where you don’t even care who wins, just whether the game will be high or low scoring.

For me, spreads feel more exciting since it really tests how well you understand the matchup, not just the team’s name or popularity. But I’m still curious..

I can't say this particular market is the one that gives the best value or is the one that's more easier to win because different gambler will always have their preferences. So everyone will always have the one that they prefer. If I fancy the totals as a gambler I will project it as the one that gives the best value, while another gambler that fancy the point spreads will say it gives the best value, same goes to the moneyline. In the end you will find out that there won't be a consensus among gamblers on which market is most profitable.

Personally, I like betting on the point spread since it’s more challenging, and I believe it’s the most popular option among the three. I’m not exactly winning much in sports betting, but if we’re talking about which one I think gives the best value, then yeah - it’s ATS for me.

Any of those choices can give good value. The lines offered aren’t always meant to be bet on right away, bettors need to find the ones that actually have value. You can figure that out by comparing the implied probability to the true probability. When there’s a big gap between the two, that’s where you spot value and decide to bet. So it could be any of the three you mentioned; it really depends on how each bettor identifies value in the lines available.

In sport betting i think everything is flexible because the outcomes of our bets is depend on the results of particular games because for moneyline it's quite often profitable especially for the games between strong teams against weak teams because the games like this is easy to predicted and all you have to do is only pick the winner which in this case most likely people will choose strong teams as the winner

Indeed the odds for betting like this will be very low but compared to other options i think moneyline is the safest bets because usually people will know which is the strong teams or weak teams but if i want something different or looking for the higher odds than moneyline usually bets on total also will be profitable but this is gambling the profit cannot be consistent because sometimes unpredictable moment can ruin my bets

You make the best money betting spreads or point totals usually near a double up on your bet. For example you wager $110 to win $100 on most of these bets. The Moneyline bet is much lower odds as you can take the favorite to win a game, but you won't win very much money on most favorites. If you can pick out a few underdogs and take a moneyline bet on them to win, you make the most money. The bad thing is they're usually underdogs for a reason, which makes it harder to win the bet.

So best option is spreads or over/under, but value in some underdog moneyline bets.

Honestly, this is where I really struggle. As we know, you need to risk $110 just to win $100, which means you’re basically giving up 10% every time you place a bet. So, you can’t just win 50% of the time to break even, you need around 52% just to break even, and maybe 55% to actually make a profit. It sounds achievable on paper, but in real experience, it’s a lot harder than it looks.

I like making accumulator bets because they're fun to watch. I was recently watching an eSports tournament and wanted my region's team to win, so I placed an accumulator bet on them beating absolutely every other team along the way. Essentially, it was a better way to increase interest than simply betting on that team to win at the end of the tournament.

Same here, Spread is much better because you can get a decent odds even by betting on heavy favorites through betting with higher score difference which is highly possible considering that most dominant team overwhelm the underdog team with huge point difference.

Also with underdog spread gives you the chance to win even though your team lose if you cover the spread points which in ML bet your bet already lose.

Some better find value on total score. I believe it depends on our preference on how we analyze a match.

I don't think there is any of this markets that is very profitable on the long run. I am trying to make reference to two similar topics like your own which I have read before but I could not find them, I'm very sure that this topic has been discussed before and from the discussions, I have not come across anybody saying that a particular market makes them to stay profitable on the long run. Even if you are not only gambling for fun but to make money and stay profitable, always risk the amount you can afford to lose, don't be too confident to risk a huge amount on a particular market because you were told that the market is more profitable. Remember that gambling also deals with being lucky.

I'm not usually consistent on the offers because I'm analyzing more the team or individual before betting but I think spread will be the one to be consistent in the long run. With basketball I usually check who's gonna play and who are the starters for the current matchup and tbh I asks some indicators too with the help of AI and usually more on just the stats things .

Interesting, AI is really getting popular these days, even in sports betting. But I’m curious, how’s your experience using AI to analyze games before placing your bets? Has it actually been profitable so far, or not much difference?

I’m asking because I’ve seen a lot of posts in different forums claiming that AI can predict game outcomes accurately, but honestly, I don’t really believe that’s possible. If it were, sports betting wouldn’t be exciting or challenging anymore.

In genera, we cant say any market is the best but personally as a gambler you can surely state which market favors you the most in sports betting.
Totals are good to play but they can be very risky when the games do not turn out right or perhaps a mistake done in the field can affect the general outcome.
Points spread is kind of more safer. There is a slight chance of winning because you can handicap two options. At the end of the day, Moneyline will always be the best for me. No beating around the bush, straight win on just one game and im good to go.

For me, I think Under/Over and Moneyline seems to be a good strategy for betting on sport games when you have quite a good knowledge about the two clubs to play in the match. Because all you know is to just know which club has the most potential on winning the game, judging from their previous performances and head-to-head match between other clubs, as that will give you a club if such clue likely to win the game or not, and you just place a bet on the club meant to have the most potential. And likewise the Over/Under strategy too, as you analyze clubs known to score more goals and play a bet on their most average goal.

Well, it was helpful because it makes your analysis easier especially if you're just focus on one offers like the spreads. What's just tricky though with AI is that you really need to give them the best prompt out there for you to be able to get good results too. I do believe I get the edge or it was profitable compare to before that I merely use AI, it helps me a lot especially in the last FIBA matchups before like FIBA U16, FIBA Americup, EuroBasket, etc.

I don't think it was the case that it could have that level of accuracy, it's just a tool that could boost our biases I guess. It could be, but I don't think AI has already reached that level, sportsbook would probably be shitting themselves by now if that happens.

There is no specific answer to your question, no one can really point out which one would be more profitable or be of more value in the long run. I would say that it's all dependent on that strategies that you apply when betting. To me no one is more profitable than the other it's all about making sure you are managing your risks carefully and also doing proper analysis, all options can be valuable.

I think the point spread can make one get a bigger win than others, but that's not to say that moneyline or totals don't offer best values because in the end, it boils down to a number of factors like a gamblers mastery or expertise, the access to information scope, the sports the gambler bets on and the odds provided by the bookmakers.

The best bet for a bettor is to actually seek out the best value across all markets and choose according to ones analysis and biggest odds advantage over the bookmakers.
