Two years later... (I still don't use any kind of notification tool, so I often miss mentions.)

I agree with OP and others that it doesn't make much sense to bare-quote the message you're being notified about.

I mean, what's the concern here? That someone will click through the quote and end up on an error-page if the topic no longer exists, or on a close-to-the-deleted-message topic-page otherwise? Those outcomes are expected, I think, when you've just been told that the message was deleted.

I think it's more valuable to have the topic ID, the message ID, and the timestamp, than to have none of those things out of a desire to prevent confusion (especially when that confusion barrier is its own source of frustration).

I guess, if theymos is adamant about this one, then like shahzadafzal suggested, the next best thing might be to include the post's title somewhere in the deletion notice.

(I'd happily work up some patch options for this, but this stuff isn't part of my test environment, so all I can really do is appeal to theymos in my capacity as a bereft-of-code schlump.)

Edit: Trimmed things down a bit, and removed the example (it wasn't a good example anyway; it itself contained a few link-quotes that I could have used at the time to recover the topic ID and remind myself where I posted it and what the context was).

I just got a pm that one of my post was deleted, but there is no link to the thread and even not the subject of the thread. Like I have to remember where I posted it like 3-4 years ago maybe even older.

Here's the how the message looks like:

A reply of yours, quoted below, was deleted by the starter of a self-moderated topic. There are no rules of self-moderation, so this deletion cannot be appealed. Do not continue posting in this topic if the topic-starter has requested that you leave.

You can create a new topic if you are unsatisfied with this one. If the topic-starter is scamming, post about it in Scam Accusations.

Could be nice if we get some sort of info when we get such massages.

The ones where we atleast get a notification in the form of message/pm that a post or more is or was deleted for whatever reason, this type is always better..

One I hate and so much dread is deleting posts without no form of notification or message about the deletion.
Some months back, like going to a year now if not more than a year already, I had 200 (or around that number) of my posts deleted in a week without any form of notifications or message, I believe this were posts I made when I was still a newbie and learning about the forum, I remember well I had a lot of one line posts/comments back then, so when this deletion happened, I quickly understood but my sadness came from not getting any notification about it, I remember concluding on creating a thread on this issue but after a days, I got over the issue and I simply decided to allow the sleeping dog lay..

I believe our forum mods can do much better in this areas please..
