Usyk danced on a stage in a club and played in a charity football match while he was supposed to be suffering from a back injury. He did those things but used the back injury as the reason to avoid fighting Parker. Now Usyk will have to fight Wardley or give him the WBO belt.
It really was a shame we did not see the Usyk vs Parker fight, he was the only top heavyweight remaining that Usyk did not fight. Now it is all about Wardley because he is the WBO interim champion.
If a more lucrative fight option was on the table, Usyk would probably surrender the WBO title and then follow the money in the hope he would win and then fight the WBO champion for another unification fight. As for Parker, he needs to take time away before making a decision about his career.
Can’t believe I missed this fight, but looking at Wardley’s record he’s undefeated so he seems like a solid matchup for Usyk. we might actually see an underdog with a real shot at upsetting the undisputed champ. I’m not that familiar with the technical rules, but if Wardley becomes the mandatory challenger for Usyk, will the belt they fight for be just the WBO title?
