I could remember a time when there was great insecurity at my place, and a company wanted to build a plant that would have provided huge number of jobs for the people of my place but the project was diverted to another community and we missed out on that opportunity, so imagine how that development would have helped people from my community if that plant was built there.

Recently, i also held about the alarming rate of kidnapping of passengers who are traveling by road which has gripped fears among travelers such that many people are even having the fear of traveling to their villages this December and we know that the month brings some kind of good tidings since most people who have not visited their parents or their loved ones since the year stated would have loved to visit them in December which probably might trigger some kind of development by some individuals but due to insecurity could make them to cancel their plans, so insecurity is really one of the biggest threats development which we are facing as a country.

Yes security is also very necessary for development but to me the foundation of true change in a country starts from love and unity, the citizens first have to accept and love each other, they have to even accept that no matter the language you speak or tribe you come from or religion you believe in that we are all Nigerians, there can’t be security if firstly there isn’t love and acceptance, everyone sees the other as a threat especially if they don’t speak same language or come from same religion, the level of betrayal in the force is even scary especially in the northern part of Nigeria, most stories i have heard is often that information was leaked  and a team was attacked and this is because of lack of love and unity amongst them, a Christian sees the Muslim as a threat, a Northern fellow sees the South or Eastern fellow as a threat, not until everyone accepts themselves  genuinely devoid of tribal or religious sentiments true development won’t come.

Secondly our educational system and electoral processes must be credible, so that only qualified individuals will assume certain positions, we do lots of politics with key positions and it’s not really helping the nations growth because there are certain things in life you can’t politicize, certain offices must be occupied by sound people, most developed countries have a back-end, this back-end is occupied only by the best in certain fields of life like ICT, Engineering, medicine etc but in Nigeria the reverse is the case, yes we also have our back-end but because of the lacuna in our educational system, corruption and failure in our electoral processes we end up having people occupying this positions that ain’t really qualified, it’s a matter of who has the connection, or has the money to bribe his way through, lots of people cut corners by so doing stunting our collective growth of our nation, you can’t cheat a system and expect development in that system.
