This has been discussed many times. Avatars will be enabled once the new forum software is implemented.

I do not think it is right some members can upload the avatar and other no just because they have not done before.

Avatars are currently locked for everyone, so nobody can delete or upload a new one.
In my profile I read the same as you:
"Changing avatars is currently not possible."

As long as the forum is racking in money, users will just be a nuisance.

Thats why the forum is just what it is now... Nobody gives a damn and the mods are doing the best they can with what they have. Im sure they have been told "fairy tales" about a super duper forum that is so superior that it takes forever to build...

And until then, the face and voice of Bitcoin is this forum...

Pretty slack...

As for Avatars, whoever says you dont need one, obviously either has one, or has no idea what the term "identity" means...  Wink

According to theymos, it is expected to take a year to finish the new forum software.

You would think.. one bright spark would at least update the forum software... Im sure there have been plenty of security updates since this version when stale...

No its not.
I am an older member, but I couldnt make any changes to my avatar, so instead, it was easier to create a new identity, so I didnt have to carry some of the older baggage around with me...
