I'm sure you did it already but just in case, you have to upgrade the wallet to the new one.
Darkcoin upgrades their wallet every time I go to sell some.  It is the dark force trying to prevent me from selling to early Smiley
Don't worry about your coins on the wallet upgrade, I have done it at least twice and the coins don't vaporize or anything.
