Let's say you publish a manifesto online (on a blog, Facebook, forum, etc...). Chances are it won't be taken seriously because anyone can easily publish anything these days. But if you publish it on a billboard or a full-page newspaper ad, people will definitely take notice. These days "cost" is a rough measure of "importance."

That's why I'm fascinated with the dynamics behind "Bitcoin Megaphone" (http://bitcoinmegaphone.com). Is there anywhere else online where people can anonymously post messages and prove their seriousness by proving how much it cost to post? I see this as a new style of mass communication; like "proof-of-work" but with "proof-of-cost". What do you think?

I do agree that money can make one's opinion appear to be more valid. However, this website isn't the answer. First of all, almost no one will view it. I can post something on Twitter or Facebook and reach a wider audience who will take it seriously for free.

I'm sure the developer is happy with the money he's getting, though.

True, the website might not be the answer right now. But if the audience grows and it gets press attention it might change the dynamic. (It's the first Bitcoin pay-per-character site, so it's got a press-worthy "Million Dollar Homepage" quality to it.)

Right now the only incentive to post on Bitcoin Megaphone instead of Facebook, Twitter, etc is that each post is also a bitcoin address, meaning the author can collect tips to cover the cost of the post. For example: http://bitcoinmegaphone.com/13yrmhc2CMvZyqPhhd7jpRnYWzVCAqHjxR/

Anyway, thanks for the comments. You raise valid concerns I'll need to address if the site is going to get more popular. (Full disclosure; I'm the developer ;-)
