ok, i understand where you're coming from better.

and in the case of mtgox, where the identity of the owner is known and the fact that he appears to have large sums on certain addresses, what you say does seem prudent.

however, in an individuals case who has taken the time to make an offline wallet and whose address with the large sum can't be traced to him, i think he is fairly safe.

There was once a lost transaction that sought to bring down the Bitcoin network, but the heroic actions of the Founders stopped it.  It was the largest transaction ever to be recorded, but nobody knows of it anymore.
