Hi my name is bonnie legion, Im a northern california recording artist singer/songwriter.   I have been doing music online professionally for about 6 years, and my main goal has been to just make good music, and hopefully be able to get to the day I can make enough money to at least feed and cloth myself and put a roof over my head.    I have struggled with industry tactics and contracts, frustrating me to the point of where I am disheartened.  I recently made the decision to stop looking at it from a sales perspective or contract deal perspective and start just focusing on trying to get my music out to as many people as possible for free.   I was recently advised to not just put out my music for free, but to set up some kind of donation link, where people who liked my music could donate.   I heard about bitcoin on free talk live and my ears perked up.  I been following for a few weeks now and trying to get as much information as I can.   I very much like the idea of a new currency completely seperate from government controls or banks.   I consider myself a freedom fighter and revolutionist so this whole thing goes very hand in hand with my beliefs.

I am curious if there are any other artists out there who have chosen to accept bitcoin donations, and there experience.   I am also curious as to the various things you can use bitcoin on.   Im not looking to make any large profits, im really just wanting to support something positive for the future, and see if theres any way I can mix my music in with that.

Do you guys think this is a good idea?

If anyone is interested in checking out my music here is a link.

I am still learning bitcoin, very fresh to it, but I just set up my own wallet.
I received a smart phone scan barcode and a bitcoin address.
Bitcoin Address:  1G65FC5KDSRidEL9MeBuajk3TAUuMhMPL9

Is this address the only thing I need to post on my sites for people to donate?
Can they only donate with a smart scan?

I just started adding the bitcoin address and asking people to donate if they would like.
Are there any suggestions or tips for me?
I appreciate all the help in understanding I can get.

Much Thanks
Bonnie Legion

Bonnie,
Good luck with your venture! You can use the code or the address. One idea might be to put videos on youtube with a donation address as well. Social media makes it relatively easy to get your work out there.

I always get excited when I see new people joining our ecosystem.

By the way ignore the crotchety people that will undoubtedly ascend on this thread, a lot of people here don't realize that treating new people poorly hurts rather than helps our cause.

You might have a look at CoinBase and BitPay.

I believe they both have tools that will help you collect and track donations.

Don't forget to put QR codes with your address on flyers, business cards, album covers and your website etc.
