Bitcoin-friendly businesses will have to wait a little longer on clarification of the crypto-currency's tax status after the Australian Tax Office said it was seeking further legal advice on a decision.

An Australian Tax Office spokeswoman said the department had delayed the decision as it was still chewing through "numerous" submissions from stakeholders and industry bodies.
