Forbes: Segway Inventor Dean Kamen Thinks His New Stirling Engine Will Get You Off The Grid For Under $10K

Just read this news article and saw the potential connection here to Bitcoin mining. My basement is currently nice and toasty with Bitcoin mining hardware, I bet one of Dean's machines would be very happy next to my S2s.

What do you think?

Will we see machines like this capturing the heat from mining ASICs in the near future?

No.  E = (T1-T2) / T2

but if the machine re captures half the power .  does it not have a value?

I don't understand how the machine captures the heat energy inside of it. If it is using natural gas it would not generate that much heat regardless. It is misleading to say that it is powered by heat.

Stirling engines are powered from a heat differential.  If you put the whole machine in the fire, so to speak, nothing happens.  But if you can heat one end of the machine while keeping "cooler" the other side, then you can generate power.

Stirling engines are sealed.  Heat is applied externally.  Natural gas, when burned, makes great heat source.
