"Plan submitted to split California into 6 states
Posted: Jul 16, 2014 4:03 PM CST Updated: Jul 16, 2014 4:18 PM CST
By George Jones - email

(RNN) - A businessman who created a proposal to break up California into separate states said he has garnered enough support to put the issue up for vote during the next statewide election.

Tim Draper, who has made billions in the technology sector, submitted 1.3 million signatures to the state capital in Sacramento on Tuesday. That's enough to put the issue on the ballot in 2016.

According to the proposal, the names of each the six states would be Jefferson, North California, Silicon Valley, Central California, West California and South California.

Each state would have its own capital, though it has not been proposed what those cities would be.

Draper is the major backer of the nonprofit group Six Californias.

The group is pushing the idea on the basis that the state's 38 million residents do not have adequate representation and revenue is not used efficiently.

Draper has sold the idea heavily for at least a year, but it is now picking up steam with enough support to take the next step in the political process.

"You can frame your own constitution, your own system of government, your own services, your own state bird," Draper said at a news conference Tuesday. "Social media and rating systems allow us to determine how each state can best serve its people. We'll be launching sites for each state that can help you get started, then it is up to you."

Even if the measure passes, both Congress and the California Legislature have to approve it. Among the myriad national implications are more seats in Congress and the effect on future presidential elections."

Your second link doesn't work. nevermind working now.

Also this wouldn't help California in any way really. It would create more problems and disagreements. The only reason the video explains for this plan is a fresh start?

No wonder I didn't hear about it before. It's a shit idea

Does this finally mean that California will no longer have 23094823 baseball teams?

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/07/15/california-billionaire-claims-juice-to-put-scheme-to-carve-out-six-states-on/

Quote
Timothy Draper, a venture capitalist founder of a Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm that has invested in such tech companies as Twitter, HotMail, Skype and Tesla, told Reuters he has the 808,000 signatures needed on a petition to force the measure onto a public referendum in November 2016. Under the far-fetched plan, one state would be called "Silicon Valley" and would include the tech mecca, as well as San Francisco.

"California needs a reboot," Draper, who has spent $4.9 million of his own money on the effort, said in a press release. "Six Californias is our opportunity to solve the many problems we face today. ... Six states that are more representative and accountable. Six states that embrace innovation and strive to improve the lives of residents."

I wonder, what are the chances of getting this Draper dude into Bitcoin? Do you thing he'll make a good fit and all? Then again, a person of his stature probably wouldn't want any heat from the FBI, et al, thus don't spend too much time trying to convince him about the merits of Bitcoin. The last thing we want is to have such a dude thinking that bitcoins are mainly used for illegal activities on the internet, i.e. purchasing drugs, and we surely don't want them to think that.

Wait, I don't get it. They're splitting California into six parts... And then add stars to the flag, and this helps? How? Why does Cali have to be six states? Why can't Tennessee be thirteen?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Divisions_of_Tennessee

Quote
The Grand Divisions are three geographic regions in the U.S. state of Tennessee, each constituting roughly one-third of the state's land area, that are geographically, culturally, legally, and economically distinct. The Grand Divisions are legally recognized in the state constitution and state law and are represented on the flag of Tennessee by the flag's three prominent stars.

No.

I am not a "conservative" as such and you don't even know what constitutes a true conservative and I'm pretty sure that you'd be unwilling to learn.

I didn't compare him to Hugo Chavez; I merely showed a photo of The Chosen One buddying up to Chavez.

Birds of a feather?

This is a great idea, long overdue, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Is this the same Tim Draper that won the SR BTC?

I love this guy - he's showing off his brass ones!

California should become a province of Canada.  That is their wisest course of action.

(I may be biased because I want a winter destination without travelling to the US)

Canada should become a city state of the EU, that would be their wisest move.
Can people who are not in the US sign for this?
