I have a home server doubling as a mining rig, which is currently running WinXP. I want to install WHS2011 on it, but I'm wondering if I'll still be able to mine with this OS? I'm mainly worried about video card drivers and the AMD APP SDK installing correctly on a server OS. Does anyone have any experience with this?

From my experience, WHS2011 will not load windows drivers, other than VGA or some sort of advanced vga, but it is on a server2008 kernel, so someone might be able to hack something together, there *is* or was the ability to run apps on it, unlike the old whs...   I would like to see this, I would plop better videocards in my WHS and run mining software for the cards...   SOrry I don't have hte complete answer on the APP SDK...

Since WHS2011 is a scaled down 2008 like win7 starter is a scaled down 7 i would agree with the hack. i would also think it must be able to because different hardware can go into different WHS boxes. If thats the case windows needs the driver and if you and install drivers you should be able to install SDKs miner apps... I cant imagine Microsoft  pre-screening the hardware to make sure it works before ASUS or HP release their WHS products.

I would search to see if anyone has installed after market gpus or other pcie cards.

Mining works for me on Win 2008 R2 Standard. The only issue was that I couldn't get hw monitoring or OC on cgminer or Afterburner. Not sure why, gpuz works.

In previous Windows Home Server versions, mining can only be done with nVidia cards because AMD didn't release drivers for WHS and vanilla AMD drivers wont work. I don't know about the latest version of WHS, my guess is mining with AMD card also won't work since AMD still didn't release official drivers for WHS.

Possible but stupid.  Why would you do that?

I buy and sell GPUs, most 5850s and 7970s.
