These risks are not unique to bit coin. Any currency or commodity can go up or down in value at any time. Any financial institution can be hacked. Bit coin is more robust in many ways and as a free market it tends to regulate itself. You can't sell a bunch and you can't buy a bunch without the price moving. This is the way markets should work.
