some ppl really think cryptocurrency could some day overtake fiat or even challenge fiat the slightest bit . . . . .

ROFL!  slow shitty blockchain technology can never challenge new world credit card transactions and good old cash.   what mind altering drugs do u nifty boys guys take? i will be paying with my mobile phone through my bank account like 99,99999999% people of industrialized nations.  "crypto"currency is NOT going to be the thing.  virtual currency by visa, mastercard and co. will be the thing, digital fiat as used today.  absolute nobrainer.

Similar things were said about the US dollar taking over precious metals, ie. gold, silver, etc, as money in the US. What is the US using now? Not everyone said it would replace fiat, but it's a good back up and supplement to fiat.

Fiat isn't going anywhere. The same way plastic didn't replace paper in pocket space

If Visa/MasterCard an Co. make their own virtual currencys, I expect for BTC to skyrocket. It would only confirm that BTC technology (blockchain etc..) is here to stay, and BTC can become a foundation stone for all these new currencies you've mentioned. BTC would maybe not be used in day to day transfers, the same as gold today. But we use fiat based on gold (so we should..), same will happen here.

I also agree, that fiat will still be here, we will not all use BTC, etc.. for daily usage, but think of what new technologies can arrive based on these inovations from BTC? The moment I saw google glasses with BTC integration, it strucked me. There is NO other way to be able to send and receive "money" faster and trustable than to use BTC or any other virtual currency. I think we're on a step on something big here, we just need a genius who's going to make something BIG + BTC. If you get me..

Best regards, -N.

Only been looking into this for the last couple weeks and I have to agree with you. How much value has BTC lost in the last week? Businesses certainly can't afford to have that sort of instability in their revenues, especially if they work on slim margins.

There are too many variables at this point to say what will become the future global currency. What we do know today is that the central banks are dictating fiat and in so doing are bypassing individual country sovereignty. If you believe the world populations can be apathetic enough to embrace economic slavery, then your hypothesis of a crypto-coin abandonment is plausible. My faith in humanity leads me to believe this won't happen but I have to admit it is only faith.
