Is there a service that can watch a specific address and notify of payments via email?

You can watch addresses with blockchain.info. I know you can set up notifications from both email and text when you send or receive payments from your own addresses, but I'm sure you can get notifications just from ones you're watching too.

Yes, use blockchain.info wallet. Import a few addresses you want to watch as "read only", by importing the address and not the private key. Then enable notifications via email.

Recommend blockchain.info. Import addresses you wish to watch and then set your notifications up via email and text message. It's one I use and I can not fault it at all.

I believe Coinbase will also send you an email if you receive coins. You can send a money request from you Coinbase account and when you get the BTC it will give you a deposit notification.

Helpful. Especially if you are expecting a significant transaction.

blockchain.info does this perfectly and is a great service all around. I havent used any of the other web wallets but bc.info seems the safest and best so far.

I have used blockchain.info and coinbase.com. Both of them send email when payment is received. Blockchain.info even send SMSes, they can have downtimes so they aren't fully accurate. Blockchain.info is however, a safer choice since you manage the private keys yourself.

Very true. But please also note that you can only get 5 free SMS messages per day, while email notifications are unlimited.

Coinbase also does not charge a fee for sending/receiving payments (at least not yet) but they're brokerage prices are not as good as market prices.

This is something people need to realise. If you don't control your own keys you can say byebye when/if someone else gets a hold of them.

Also, don't forget to make wallet backups so that even when blockchain.info is inaccessible (temporarily or not), you can still have access to your bitcoin.
