What does it take to make a coin? I am getting into programming and I was wondering what is required to make a coin.
What program language the software is written in?
Do you have to host the software on a server?

I am new to crypto and would like to know more about development. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

My suggestion is to try to find an existing coin that needs some dev support or is looking to add to its team. There are over 500+ altcoins with more being made daily. Please don't add tot he clutter. A lot of those could use some help and it would give you real experience in crypto development. After that and you have a very good base in coin work and you have somewhat established yourself consider a new coin.

Just pick an Altcoin that evolves around the topic you want to contribute to. By now  more or less everything has been tried with Alts, so you will be much better off choosing an existing team. Plus you are bound to get support from existing communities and dev teams.
Most coins are written in C++. It does not really take a lot to make a new coin. In theory all you have to do is fork an existing one and generate a new genesis block. It's really easy and has been done countless times. You don't necessarily need a server to host the software, a file hosting service together with a Github Repo is all you really need.
