Hello,

I am running an antminer s5 to mine bitcoins in slushpool, now it worked perfectly at home, but when I moved to college to take advantage of the free electricity, and I plug it in via ethernet, the miner is running, but Slushpool says im not mining anything. All the lights are on, just like at home, but here, it says I'm not mining. I assume that its because I'm not connected to the internet, is there any way that I can get the antminer to work? I mean it should be getting internet via the ethernet cord, but for some reason its just not connecting. There is no way I can get to the miner status page, because I have no way to receive the IP of the miner.

If the miner was set to dhcp then it should be connected. Have you got access to the dorms internet router? or are you able to run an IP scanner to search for it on the network?

Also very possible for them to have blocked it from connecting.
As they are likely aware and don't want people doing exactly this.

I lived in 2 different dorms we had to accept a user agreement on first time connecting, it then registered your MAC address as agreeing with it.   Do you have to agree to terms or a sign in portal with internet?

It's been a few years back but with the set up they had you could not connect a xbox as it did not bring up a agreement.  The fix they had student's use was a router (they wanted wireless turned off) and clone mac address of PC that accepted agreement.  I would not be surprised if you have something like this.  Also some places don't like routers so they might have a better option.

I had something similar back in college. Everytime we connected we had to sign in with our student id and password. We could get an overwrite/static if we had xbox ps2. So they were auto authenticated with our student id. Get to know your It people they might be able to hook you up.

From home see if the miner is set to DHCP.  If not turn it on.  From school go on your computer use a program that will list devices on the the LAN to find the IP of the miner.  You man even be able to just go to the ip address of the gateway on your computer and see a list that way depending on what they are using and the security.  Once you find it log in and go to network->diagnostics and try doing a traceroute to narrow down where the issue is.

Just plug your S5 into your laptop ethernet and enable internet sharing. It will share internet over your laptops wifi.

Just plug your S5 into your laptop ethernet and enable internet sharing. It will share internet over your laptops wifi.

Then he has to have a laptop running 24x7.    I have a feeling he can do it with a wireless bridge and MAC cloning, if not a old router and MAC cloning.

If he has a old router I would try it first if you have Ethernet into it and clone MAC. If stuck on wireless then go to wireless bridge.  But be warned S5's unless lowered freq run hot and loud.   It is not something I would have wanted in my dorm room.
