The project as a whole is showing signs of a very promising future. XEM is already trading on 5 exchange sites. The NEM core was recently open sourced, and several projects planned including smart contracts, an asset exchange, and a mobile wallet. NEM's whitepaper was released a few weeks ago, going in depth about how NEM works including info on poi (proof of importance). Also, a node rewards program was just announced just the other day. I believe current focus is on node rewards and a mobile wallet.
