There are 2 identical threads running in Beginners & Help. Can I report for a merge ?

i. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=760781.0

ii. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=724219.0

p.s. Looking for Mod's opinion only.

I don't think so! Your accuracy level may drop. It is identical but posted by different persons. So I think, better to avoid it. Smiley

I do this from time to time. AFAIK merging doesn't really happen that often though. But my accuracy is still 98% after almost 300 reported, so good enough I guess. Also the admins/mods said multiple times they don't really care about incorrect reports as long as 60+% is correct, because it helps them anyway.

However, besides that I would be very interested too in what some moderators think about merging threads in general (besides that specific example.) It also happens quite often with "new news" (especially if it's posted in multiple forums like Press, Speculation, Service Discussion.)

Merging topics is actually disabled, mods can't merge, theymos doesn't like it too much. Admins can, I generally only do it if the topics are literally the same topic, like a seller made multiple threads and more than one has substantial replies.

Those two threads are pretty similar, but the first one has a specific question that isn't addressed in the other, about no fee services, so merging them may cause confusion. If two threads about the same article are posted it's probably better to lock or remove the new topic with a link to the already existing thread, if it's caught early and there's no good replies yet. If not, merging may be okay, it depends, sometimes two topics about the same thing can go in different directions and merging would not be desirable.

First of all, thank u for the explanation. When we have 2 topic about same news, e.g. Wikimedia accepting Bitcoin or CoinBase Insured, can we report like this to all the threads except the oldest one ?

Please Lock Topic. Same as : <topic thread>

Best to just report it as a dupe and the mod responding can figure out the best course of action.
