Newbie mining, rockminer?

So basically i have never mined before and although i've always been interested in it i really don't know much.
I can get a rockminer rbox 32gh/s asic for $50 aud (0.0960btc), questions are
Is this suitable for newbie miner?
It it a good price?
Is it worth the time?
I know its not profitable to solo mine anymore but im interested to it out try i for a couple of months just to learn.

I belive the rbox only uses 40w but i could be corrected on this.
What do you run yours on and can you still use the computer for basic things while mining?
If i make half my money back then i'll be happy, just don't want to loose more than i put in.
I thought about cloud mining but after a bit of research i don't really trust it.
Im really just trying to learn everything i can about all aspects of bitcoin.

It does use 40w, but have not measured it at the wall....yet.
I mine with a Raspberry Pi Model B+ (another 7w) as the controller.

So my little experiment is using 47w to mine at 34GH at approximately $0.08 kWh.

Use a mining calculator to see what you will make back. There are a few, but here is a link to one:

Just remember, its the ASIC, some form of controller, power to the ASIC and the controller, and internet costs.

Unless something unusual happens, I doubt you will make any positive return on investment, but you will no doubt learn something at least.

Even with sub 5 cent per KWh electricity I lose money in the long run with one of those. The only way I can see it ever meeting ROI is with free electricity, unfortunately. I was considering one for a second miner, as well.

I don't think there's any miner you can buy right now that is likely to return positive ROI. So yeah, just buy the cheapest one and play around with it if you are interested in learning. But honestly if you already have a computer with a GPU, you can just learn that way too without shelling out for an ASIC.

you cannot cover your electricity cost with mining with GPU - mining is a difficult game

if you mine with GPU, you have to mine altcoin and then sell for BTC, do not mine BTC with GPU.

I have an Rbox, I love the little guy!  Make sure you use a 12Vdc supply or you'll nuke the fan though, if you do take out fan just buy a fan and shoot it at it.

Never solo mined, always pool mined.

I say go for it if it's a hobby.
