Initally, I was going to do linux via USB for an open mining rig (MB, GPSUs, RAM, power supply - attached a monitor and KB via USB).

Would it be better to have a HD + W7?
But I don't have an extra CD/DVD unit to read the OS install disk.
(Actually, I only have one, on another computer.)

Can I install W7 on the HD on another (my main) computer, as a 2nd or 3rd HD, then disconnect it and add to the open rig?

Not completely sure I want to use the rig for mining, might wind up using it a backup computer for other stuff, so the W7 would be handy.
