Hi everyone, i was wondering if anyone could help me out with a little problem i have.

I recently set up my GuiMiner to mine from the DeepBit server pool. My Ati 5700 series runs at around 155-170 Mhash/s but what I would like to do is lower the rate to about 115 Mhash/s because the strain on the core temperatures reach about 86°C and i would like to be able to use my computer while mining. Ive tried typing in -f 60 in the extra flags dialogue box under password but it doesn't seem to affect the hash rate at all.

Do you currently overclock the video card at all?

For the temperature, just underclock it... For the usability, with cgminer you could lower intensity, but I don't know if/how this can be done with GuiMiner.

Okay, good. Well you CAN use an overclocking program to underclock it though. This would lower the heat and the hash rate. You could also just add some better cooling...

Wont underclocking my gpu lower overall performance rather then just limiting hash rate on GuiMiner?

I also like to dial down the utilization on my main GPU so I can use it for other things without interference.

I use GUIMiner, but I start my miners as "New Pheonix Miner".  The Pheonix miner has a parameter called "AGGRESSION" that lets you dial down the GPU utilization. I set the aggression down around 1-5, depending on what I'm doing.

Cheers

I tried this and it worked Smiley, got my gpu core down 35%/11°C. I can now watch porn while Mining. Thank you.

Lowering your memory clock can also decrease your core temps a couple to few C.

Increase the fan speed a few %?  Can work wonders.  On my 6870 I took fan speed up 5% from auto settings and it decreased my temps 6C.

Isn't the -f setting in GUIminer allow for more or less desktop usage?  Still mine at 100% but allows other apps to utilize some gpu power if needed.

Yes, but you can set overclocking profiles that only enable when certain applications or games are launched. So instead of making it overclock when you launch a game, you can have it under clock when you launch you miner. But yeah I gotta try that Phoenix miner if it has options like that....
