Does any of the bitcoin friendly banks allow opening of accounts remotely?

I use Schwab bank (Charles Schwab) and haven't had any issues so far. Most if not all of my transactions are from Coinbase. I average between 5 - 10 transactions a month. So far so good. It's also nice because my brokerage account is linked to the checking account.

Haven't seen any progress on this, but Wells Fargo tends to be more independent than the other major US banks.  For instance they didn't get involved heavily with the MBS junk.

A better question from me would ask if anyone has had it happen or has knowledge of Wells Fargo closing accounts? I haven't. Every thing that I have read seems that Chase and good ole Jamie are leading the closures. I wonder how Washington Mutual would have handled bitcoin?

by closures you mean account closures due to Bitcoin usage?  This might actually be illegal, but can't say for sure.

Ultimately I think we can replace all banking functions with p2p technology.  There are some technologies out there that are moving in this direction- although I don't see any of them as being long standing- they lack real theoretical coherence.

I'm not a big fan of Chase. Especially the way that WAMU was gifted to Jamie by Sheila Blair. Other banks were in worse trouble but they wanted to make an example out of them and start the consolidation process. Anyway, that probably belongs on another board. Lol!

There's no such thing is a bitcoin friendly bank, not yet at least. Either they're neutral about it, or they're very hostile. If you open an account mentioning it's specifically for bitcoin business, no banks will welcome you.

I second this, I have a Schwab bank account and haven't had any issues with them, although I haven't made nearly as many bitcoin transactions as LavaWave has done with them.

I use Fidelity Investments for checking. They are also a brokerage and haven't given me any problems with 3-4 coin base tx a month. You can open an account online with them.

Why would it be illegal for a bank to decide to stop doing business with you?
Many, if not most, of the posted account closures have been people conducting bitcoin related businesses using personal accounts.
Which makes them hardly surprising.

That's good to hear that another Schwab customer hasn't had any issues either!

Schwab closed my accounts. They told me I didnt use enough of their services. I was just depositing money and wiring to bitcoin exchanges.
