Bither team collects compromised wallet

Bither team said that they had transferred some coins from compromised wallet.
They will return the coins to their rightful owner in the future.
So far around 3.6 btc has been collected.

Any reference to the English language article on what they are saying? Don't quite understand even after translation by google translate.
I'm more interested on how it happened and why only few wallets are compromised. Is this a lag of security on the user part or from the website itself.
